Update on the Deltec

Matt has been building a prefab hurricane proof home here in Fish Bay. Here are a few pictures of what he has done so far. The people are not living in the house just yet. It still needs some electrical, plumbing, a metal roof, kitchens and baths, cisterns and a septic system. As you can see the bedrooms are finished, boarded the rooms with a concrete wall board, installed the tile floors, and painted.

Downside to building on STJ. One lumber yard with hardly any stock. He went up to Paradise one day looking for some interior trim and they didn't have any. They actually handed him one piece of paper with their entire wood inventory on it. Crazy!!

Deltek?

My friends just beuilt one on STJ, very cool!

Does anyone ever ship everything they need down in containers? We are in the construction business and my husband has fantasies of building our own house.

We shipped 2 containers. One was the building materials that we purchased for the remodel: plumbing and light fixtures, vanities, appliances, ceiling fans etc. The second was the furniture and tools. Our cabinets came from St. Croix. Assuming your husband has accounts at supply houses and can get good prices, it would offset the cost of shipping, plus then you get exactly what you want!
For us, Crowley was cheaper than Tropical.

We will be on island the 26-30th with our boys. If you are back, stop by or look for a family of 5 including a giant 19 year old.
We will also be down November 8-14 with friends.

How much did it cost to ship he 20' container from the US to St. Thomas? I'm moving to St. Thomas this summer and debating the merits of bringing furniture. Thanks!
