So what's new?

Was off island a few days this week and came back to the news that the Renaissance has been sold. We have a lot of friends over there - I wish them all well and hope they don't all lose their jobs.

This Saturday night is the Flavors Of St. John at the Westin and we are looking forward to that. What else is going on? We have been very busy with work and would like to hear any news any of you have.

I am sorry to read of the sale of the Renaissance to a Mexican corporation that wants to turn it into an all-inclusive property. I have always been pleased that St Thomas has resisted the turn to "AI". AI was developed in Mexico and places like Jamaica where there was inadequate infrastructure for tourists. Bring a plane load in, keep them on your property and send them home at the end of the week. They don't experience any of the local culture, food, people. The corporation makes money and this one will send profits to another country! AI does NOT help develop the tourism product nor does it help in developing job opportunities. God bless America for giving everyone in the world these hand-outs!
