Does anyone know any details about the "bridge to nowhere" built on the north side of St. Thomas. I can tell it was supposed to be part of some road improvement, but it seems too high and too close to the corner to make a safe grade transition without cutting off a couple properties from the road. The taxi driver I asked said "Someone's going to jail when the Feds finish their investigation". Old news, I'm sure, but does anyone have a little more background?

Taxi drivers talk a lot of bunk. The bridge was put in to help divert water in a flood area. The Feds recommended the bridge and the raising of the roadway to accommodate same. The previous administration ran with the idea and was only able to secure fundng for the bridge. As you can see the project will be huge as to the raising of the roads and relocating of businesses! They are still talking about finding the funding to finish the job. For the time being, it does not flood there during big rainstorms and makes a great conversation piece.

Thanks, Now I can see why there is a delay. The relocation stuff is always much more complicated than it seems at the beginning. However, if they really want to ease flooding, they will have to increase the size of some of those culverts to the south, too! We have a "bridge to nowhere" here in Southeastern Connecticut. The section of highway after the bridge was held up for budget, then environmental reasons...27 years ago! It's getting time to paint it again! Hope your highway job proceeds more briskly!
