What is a Cat Cracker?

I didn't know - but then I saw this headline "St. Croix cat cracker cut to 100,000 bpd on glitch-Hess" and had to read the story.

Anthony, my computer kept freezing-up when I tried to access this story. This is what I think:

A "Cat Cracker" is a refining unit that takes long chain oil molecules and cracks them, forming shorter chain molecules. This is accomplished using a Catalyst, heat and pressure. Thus the name Cat Cracker. The short chain molecules can them be used to make lighter petroleum products like jet fuel, gasoline, diesel fuel and the like. There is less demand for the products made with the longer chain molecules of petroleum.

For the longest time, I have been amazed at the knowledge shown by JSS3. You never fail to inform, entertain, and educate; but , I believe the correct answer is: A treat you give Fluffy when she's been a good girl. ;)

He's one smart guy. But hey, since he's from cat cracker country Baton Roooooooooge, he better know what it means.

Hey, JSS, you going to the next cat cracker seminar in August. I left the url if you are. I'll see you there.

Actually, might see you sooner since it looks like we'll be meeting the Okies of Oklahoma on the 4th of Jan. We'll be in your neck of the woods....you can buy Ang and I a drink

allan, hope we can meet in Jan... is it the Okies, or Sooners? New Orleans will be jammed and prices inflated. I must admit that I asked my EXXONMobile process engineer buddy about the Cat Cracker. I'm just a salesman. What do I know?!

"just a salesman". Brings back a memory when I was in the international freight biz and one of the company's main sales guys. I'd sit in a meeting with the department heads and someone would say something like, "you department heads have to do some sales". These department heads would always have it in for the sales guys. One day I popped up and told them, wonder if you guys would have jobs if it wasn't for the sales guys in the room. (I was older than most) It shut them up.

Even now that I have my own company, I still consider myself a saleman.

Now JSS get out there and sell.

It is the Sooners, but they are okies, if you catch my drift. Not sophisticated valley boys, if you know what I mean

allan: I love your oxymoron "sophisticated valley boy" (who you callin' an oxy?). Like you know, fer shure, dude... you know!? Standing on the corner of Moorpark and Laurel Canyon, watching all the Beemers drive by! G'night Mate, JSS3.
