Sugar Estate, St. Thomas

Sugar Estate

Maybe some of you will recognize this view of Sugar Estate. You are looking at where the post office and hospital are now. I think Ronnie sent this to me by email - if I remember correctly this land used to belong to his family. Maybe he can comment on this and fill us in with some more facts.

Yes, Sir, that was all my Great Grandfather's property! The road still exists. To the right he subdivided it after WWII and sold lots to returning veterans! Was $200 per full lot and he also sold sections as small as 1/4 lots for $50. To the left of the road is where the High School, Post Office, and hospital sit today as well as Alfred Harris Lockhart Elementary School named in his honor. He donated the land for the High School. The hospital land, 26 acres, was sold so cheap with another batch of 6 acres thrown in for free!
