Tuesday, 12/1

Villa Gravity Day - I never saw the outside world today! Everyone scratched up their own breakfast (I finished my quesadilla from last night - yum ). Drank Bloody Marys (do you see a pattern here?), floated in the pool and sent out a search party for lunch. They returned with Uncle Joe’s BBQ - excellent ribs, slaw and macaroni salad! Lots of leftovers. Norm set up a Bananaquit station - bird bath and a plate of sugar. This was the day’s entertainment. Norm spent the rest of the trip trying to get a picture of those birds - no luck. Guess he’ll have to go back!

Billy and Norm decided to decorate the gazebo with some little white lights they found in the villa.

Gorilla set sail in the pool.

There was a lot of hanging out going on -

The search party had also returned with some pork tenderloin for dinner which we marinated in St. John Spice grill rub marinade. The tenderloins were grilled for dinner and served with sweet potato, noodles and stir fried veggies. Sooooo good!
The kitchen help -

Lost in a book -

We lost power before dinner. Since our greeter had warned us this might happen, we were all aware of where our flashlights were and easily retrieved them. We settled in to drink and create plan B for dinner since everything would have to be cooked on the grill. Luckily the power was only out for about 30 minutes. After the power came back on, the smoke detector in Norm’s bedroom would not stop beeping. Unfortunately we couldn’t reach the device to pull the battery so Destination St. John was called. A maintenance man showed up shortly and pulled the battery out, saying he would return tomorrow with a new one. He never came back.

We wound up the evening with Billy’s special coffee dessert. I’m not quite sure what the recipe is but it involves cold coffee, vanilla ice cream and a bunch of booze. What a way to end another awesome day in paradise!

Wednesday, 12/2

Everyone wanted some shopping time this morning so we all headed out for Mongoose Junction around 9. Once the shopping fix was satisfied, we grabbed take away from Deli Grotto (good sandwiches for $7-$9) and headed back for a poolside lunch. Then it was off to Francis Bay. We enjoyed the views on the way up the coast.

Francis Bay was beautiful and quiet. There were brightly colored roosters roaming the beach - reminiscent of Key West. The pelicans were feeding - I never get tired of watching them crash into the water! The snorkeling was OK - saw a couple of stingrays. The bugs here were very annoying. Home to the pool and another beautiful sunset.

Earlier in the day we had stopped for a drink at Gecko Gazebo

and found out there was music at Sun Dog Café tonight so off we went. They were very accommodating of our group of 8 and set up an extra table in the back so we could enjoy the music but not be blasted by the speakers.

The service was good as was the food. I really enjoyed by chicken and pesto pizza ($15), half of which I took home for a snack another day. The rest of the crowd had shrimp burritos, crab cake salad, turkey meatloaf in a puff pastry (I tasted that - very good!). We thought the prices here were very reasonable and we enjoyed the pick up band. Home for nightcaps and bed. Another lovely day on St. John.
