Opar Villa 07/18/01
Reviewers Rating: Great
My new husband and I stayed at Opar Villa for one week in May 2001 for our honeymoon. One of the best things about this villa is its location. It is situated on a hillside overlooking Ditliff Point and Klein Bay - not too high up, not too close to the water. Really quite a perfect location for good breezes and excellent views of the turtles feeding in the bay below. The villa is broken into two houses - a main house with the living and dining rooms, kitchen, and upstairs loft bedroom with two twin beds. The living room is appointed with comfortable island furniture (my husband fell asleep after a long day beaching quite often), the dining room is also nicely done - but we never actually used it. The kitchen is well stocked and convienent (watch out for the extra sharp knives!) Across the deck from the main house are the two queen bedrooms. Both have seperate entrances and bathrooms - however they are adjacent to one another. For that reason I would hesitate to recommend Opar for two couples vacationing together. You might not be able to enjoy the privacy you could have somewhere else. The bedrooms are both airconditioned (never used it) and both have ceiling fans which cool the rooms VERY well (Often used the blankets with the combination of breezes and ceiling fans) There is a beautiful deck complete with hot tub (a working HOT tub) and a small pool (I would estimate 6' x 12' and about 4' deep). To be honest we rarely used the pool even on the hotest of afternoons because the sea breeze swept right over the deck and kept us quite cool to the point where the pool was cold. There are also magnificent gardens surrounding the deck and home hiding many lizards and hermit crabs (the things making the rustling sounds at night are hermit crabs). Beware if water access is important. Although advertised as accessible, it would be quite difficult for the unsteady, non-athletic or plain clumsy. There is a steep staircase that winds down to a large rock, off of which you need to repel to other small boulders by using a rope tied to the edge of the staircase. My husband and I had a blast - but the less adventurous might not find this feature as welcoming. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would return - however not immediately. Klein Bay is certainly a neighborhood of choice though with wonderful views and excellent snorkeling in the bay. There are several other villas in the area: Orchid, Oleander, Casa del Sol, Peace and Plenty, Belle Mer, Monte Bay, Villa Rendesvous to name a few. As of May 2001 there were also two villas under contruction - however the noise was not a factor in our vacation. (never heard a thing except for one afternoon when we came back early - but then it was only the distant grumbling of bulldozer engines) Klein Bay is about a 10-15 minute drive from town - but miles away from tourists and crowds. Opar Villa can be rented through Lisa Durgin @ Vacation Vistas
