Dream Catcher villa 11/04/01
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
When we first began planning our St. John vacation we soon realized that we simply couldn't afford many of the island's villas, even in the off-season. We finally settled on Dream Catcher, which we found to be quite a bit less expensive than the average St. John villa, while still offering all the amenities we wanted--a pool, hot tub and A/C. But in spite of the great-looking pictures, we were still a little concerned about the low price and what out villa would actually look like in person.

We needn't have worried. This villa met and surpassed all our expectations! Dream Catcher is situated on a hill in Great Cruz Bay. The location is very convenient to restaurants, grocery stores and other locations in Cruz Bay and the beaches of the north shore are only about a 10 minute drive. The balcony and pool at Dream Catcher have a fabulous view of the bay and all the tiny boats bobbing in the water. Further out you can see St. Thomas (which is especially nice at night with all the sparkling lights). The villa's three bedrooms are equally-sized, each with its own bath, ceiling fan, mosquito net, and air conditioning unit. The kitchen is small but well-equipped and very clean. The living area is attractively furnished and the entire wall facing the bay is made of windows (screens as opposed to glass). Outside is a good-sized pool, a grill, and a patio table. On a connecting deck one level up is the hot tub. Although there are neighboring villas on both sides, trees shield the deck from view and offer enough privacy to allow all the skinny-dipping you might want. The location is very quiet and there are no ridiculously steep driveways or dirt roads on approach. A washer, dryer, and safe are also offered.

Bottom Line--I would recommend this villa to just about anyone. For the money, we felt it was an excellent value. Dream Catcher currently rents for $1540 a week in the off-season (plus tax and service charge).

Overall, we were also pleased with Caribbean Villas as a rental agency. Although their service fee makes them a bit more expensive than some of the other companies, we found their service to be very good. When we had a minor problem with our hot tub mid-way through the week, they had it fixed within a few hours of our call.
