Cliffside Terrace – Chocolate Hole

Just returned from a week at this “mysterious” place – seems nobody wants to post a report. That’s because we’re selfish. There I said it! Cliffside is a lovely 2BR, 1 bath villa set on the (duh) Cliffside above Chocolate Hole. One bedroom has a king bed; the other has twins. For that reason, I would recommend it to one couple (to avoid fights over bedrooms) or a small family. Best yet, just ONE couple. So romantic! With only one neighbor above, it is very private (if no one is looking off the balcony above). Fortunately, they didn’t like what I looked like so they went back inside and never came back out again. Anyway, don’t pack much in the way of swim suits – if you have no company up above, you will also have no tan lines when you come home. It is a very clean, well-equipped villa with great views. On the far end there is a combination 12-ft. glass door that opens way up and has screens (although some no see ‘ums did make it thru, but no mosquitos). The rest of the windows are louvered and screened so you can get one hell of a breeze going inside if you want – a former guest recommended AC in the master BR, but it really is not necessary if you know how to crank open windows. The villa has a large “great room” – combination LR with three dining areas (small, but it’s fun to switch) or you can eat outside on the balcony or down at the pool. The kitchen has a large center island and loads of cabinet space. The pool is what our island friends call a “Wally” pool,` after the guy who ships them to the island by the boatload. Not big, but big enough and very refreshing. (Although the terra cotta tiles at the edge get HOT!) At night you can put on the pool light, or the lights on the railing around the pool deck, or no lights at all -- and just enjoy the moonlight and stars. We didn’t think we’d use the hot tub, but we did, at night. There are many, many tame and semi-tame iguanas – some of whom like to eat out of your hand. Some are quite big, so if you don’t like big iguanas, don’t go there – they own the place – and they will poop on the pool deck in gratitude for a meal of cucumber peels and lettuce. There is an outside shower – nothing spectacular but very private and has better water pressure and better view than the one inside. Road to the villa is rough in places (what’s new) and the driveway can be a killer if it rains – you HAVE to have 4wd to get up it in the rain. Conveniently located to Cruz Bay and not too bad of a drive to the beaches. We felt very at home there and I am languishing until our next return trip. I hope you are all aware that now that I’ve told about this place, I will be tortured and banned from the island, but, hey, what are friends for?

If I’ve left anything out, please visit the board and ask questions and I, at great risk to life and limb, will do my best to answer them.
