Four of us stayed at Orchid Hill (Vacation Vistas) recently and absolutely loved it. The house is lovely and in good repair. Located on Maria Bluff, the drive from town was short and very easy on paved roads. From the driveway you enter the pool area through a metal gate. Pool and hot tub are beautiful and clean. Up a few more steps to the back courtyard which is landscaped with plants and flowers. You can enter the house through the living/kitchen area or the "Gallery". The Gallery is a huge outdoor, roofed, room with nice native stonework and comfy furniture and it was our favorite place to hang out when the sun got to be too much. To one side of the Gallery is the Leeward bedroom - king bed, louvered, screened windows, bath & shower and outdoor shower. To the other side of the Gallery is the living/dining/kitchen area. This is tastefully decorated and nicely appointed and equipped. The windows here do not open, but there is a screened/louvered section on the bottom. On the far side of the l/d/k area is the Windward bedroom - equal to the other, but no outdoor shower. There is a washer and dryer on site. The breezes in this place are really unbelievable! There was never a need for AC, not even for the guy who mistakenly thought the bedrooms were AC'd. At times it even felt a little chilly. Bugs were never a problem as they just blew on by.
There are only a few little things that need some work: The handle to the microwave was previously glued on and came off. The toaster acted up, but we found a way around it. The glass coffee table was cracked when we arrived and broke in half in response to a dropped glass. Stereo speakers on the pool deck would be a nice addition. We called the villa agency to let them know that the gardening crew arrived and let themselved into the yard entirely unannounced (fortunately the gravel in the driveway gives you a few seconds notice). Everything else was perfect.
The construction next door was a major disappointment. We'd been told it was not at a particularly loud stage and that most of the outdoor work was completed. Apparently, due to a change order by the owner, there was a need for extensive hammer-drilling along the roof line for much of our stay. This is a very loud procedure which requires the workers to stand on the roof or scaffold near the roof line - no sleeping in and no privacy in the courtyard or by the pool. Hopefully this will be over soon.
Our favorite villa so far... now all they have to do is move it over to the Coral Bay side of the island for us!! ;~)
