virgin islands on line : st. john : hotel & villa reviews

Seabreeze 05/07/2004
Reviewers Rating: Great
The Villa: Seabreeze Villa

The LOCATION: On Bordeux Mountain - 1300 ft. up, highest point on the island! We loved that it was almost in the middle between Coral Bay and Cruz Bay – but closer to Coral Bay. We liked that side of the island better. Very close to the North shore beaches. Francis and Maho being the closest.

The DRIVE: About 15-20 minutes from Cruz Bay. Take a right at Chateaux Bordeaux and Seabreeze is on the top on the mountain. The drive is mostly paved up to the villa. They were working on paving one part while we were there, and they might be finished soon. Even the unpaved road was not too bad compared to some others that I saw.

The VIEW: Unbelievable. Now you’re way up on the mountain, so your not close to the water, but you view Coral Bay, the East end of St. John, Francis Drake’s channel, and the BVI’s – and all the mountains around you. It is just incredible. Totally and completely private, surrounded by banana trees, lime trees, coconut, mango trees, and tons of other plants, flowers and nature! Wow, completely peaceful and quiet. The breeze up here is incredible, best on the island! Actually wore a sweatshirt and long pants on the deck, so breezy. The breeze was so strong up there it flung our screen door open in the middle of the night. We learned to lock it after that. Great sunrise views if you’re an early riser.

The HOUSE: Cute house, you can tell it is older, the couches and rugs were a bit stained and worn. 3 Bedrooms and a loft, 2 full bathrooms. All clean and simple. Upper level, great room, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath. Nice covered deck with hot tub. Table that seats 6 on the deck. Lots of towels and linens. Toaster was pretty old, very small microwave. They had some type of blender but we didn't use it. The grill was kinda old, but worked. Lots of cups and plates. Seemed to be limited on forks, if I remember, but we didn't really eat in much. The great room was smaller than I thought from the pictures, but open and airy with 2 sliding glass doors opening to the view. Lower level, one bedroom with full bath. We used that mostly. Great pool on that level– very deep, couldn’t even stand on the bottom anywhere and I’m 5’6, so not good for little kids. Was cold, as the villa gets morning and early afternoon sun only. We preferred that we could sit on the deck in the shade after about 3:00. As it got dark, watched 2 bats flying back and forth over the pool, taking a sip of the water, then up and back around again! Very amusing! Cable went out a few times, and power went out once for about 5 hours. No sound of construction or people. NONE!! Big Bonus! Just the wind, birds, tree frogs etc.

Windspree is good to work with. No welcome basket, well there was a small canvas lunch cooler, but only had maps and stuff in it. No food or drinks like some. They got us to grocery store and the villa, and that was good enough for us.

Aside from the fact that is wasn't real fancy and a bit older, we loved the location. Great view, great breezes, close to Coral Bay, but Cruz Bay was only about 15 minutes. Near the Northshore beaches. Affordable.
