Gibney Beach Cottage 06/20/2004
Reviewers Rating: Stars Excellent
The Gibney Beach Cottage was awesome. The location is basically right on the beach. Only a few steps and a white picket fence separate
the front porch from the white sands of Gibney Beach. The location was perfect for us- we spent several days just relaxing on the beach. It was easy to just run inside to get something to eat/drink, etc.

The beach itself is pretty nice - not as big and wide as Trunk, obviously, but big enough, never too crowded (but more crowded at times that we thought it would be) and a nice, protected bay for snorkeling and swimming. The snorkeling is best off to the right of the beach, along the reef, and further out towards Peace Hill. In places, it is shallow enough for non-swimmers to stand and "snorkel".

Inside, the cottage was perfect for us. Clean and well kept, it's basically a studio, with a small kitchen and dining area, a couple of sofas, and one king sized bed. There's a bathroom with a shower, along with an outdoor shower outside of the bathroom. A front porch has a table and some chairs. The unit has an air conditioning unit that worked well, along with ceiling fans inside and one on the porch. We never cooked, but there are full kitchen facilities minus a dishwasher, as well as a gas grill outside. A bunch of beach chairs are also provided.

The second cottage, the garden cottage looked to be about the same, but had a "private" bedroom on the 1st floor with a 2nd story loft bedroom.

The location is great - secluded and private. You can sometimes hear the waves on the beach, as well as the chorus of insects and birds all around. The grounds are really nice, with a lot of different fruit trees and flowers around, and well maintained. Parking isn't a problem, and it's close enough to town to make dinner/shopping an easy drive, as well as pretty quick access to Coral Bay and other parts of the island. We loved early mornings and late afternoons on the beach, when it was at its most quiet. Our families also enjoyed coming over and using the beach.

There's really something to be said for being right on the beach. It's amazingly convenient, and a great perk. You don't have the same view as say a villa like Argonauta, but you can sit on your porch and almost touch the water. Well worth the money, in my opinion. We rented directly from Teri Gibney, the owner, who was great.
