Reviewers Rating: Great
We rented from Private Homes for Private Vacations and they were wonderful to work with. I highly recommend this agency. Very easy to work with, very friendly. PHPV had assembled a very comprehensive and well-organized binder of helpful information that was in the villa - nice to have.
Tree Tops is on Bordeaux Mountain. The location is very convenient and about 1 mile from Chateau Bordeaux. The drives to Coral Bay, Cruz Bay and the North Shore beaches were all pretty easy (Cruz Bay being the longest drive).
Bordeaux Mt. is a bit chilly compared to other parts of the island - between 5 and 10 degrees cooler than the beaches and this limited our time sitting on the deck in my swimsuit to when the sun was out. Conversely, A/C absolutely not needed.
The villa is very nice and beautifully decorated. Ceiling fans throughout the villa (no A/C - but not needed). Very large kitchen. There is one bedroom in the main house with a king-sized bed. Two other bedrooms were in a separate structure with each bedroom very private and with its own bathroom. The home would work well for two or three couples.
The deck was lovely, with a pool and a hot tub. The pool was never warm enough for us, so didn't use it. The hot tub was on a timer and we could never figure out how to get it to warm up at other times. There were instructions (which seemed easy), but baffled us. We could have called the villa agency, but it never seemed that important. Used the hot tub one evening (timed it when the hot tub was hot!) and it was fine.
For any potential renters, a big warning is there basically is no view, which you can pretty much figure out from the website (http://www.privatehomesvi.com/treetops.htm). You can see a little through the trees, but you will not have the panoramic, sweeping views that many of you covet. We didn't mind the limited views, in fact thought the privacy was exceptional but I know this would be a deal-breaker for some of you. By the way, the pictures on the website are a bit out of date, the master bedroom has new curtains, bedspread and is very nice.
The villa is very well stocked - books, DVDs, games, CDs. The kitchen has just about any utensil, pot or pan that you could possibly need - as I recall they actually had muffin tins! There was even a wine refrigerator. A grill is out back on the deck. When we were there, there was even a fairly well-stocked bar (!) - remnants I am sure of past guests.
An added plus for us was that we could walk to the Bordauex Mt. Trail (about a mile down the road). For those ambitious enough, you could hike down the trail and over to Lameshur to snorkel - but this would be an adventure and probably considered a difficult journey with snorkel gear, etc. The top of the Reef Bay Trail is also not terribly far away (1.5 miles?). If hiking is your thing - this location is excellent. A good half-day hike would be over to the Reef Bay Trail, across the Lameshur Trail and up the Bordeaux Mt. Trail. Just a thought, but I digress from the villa review!
Overall, this home is very nice and in a beautiful, private, garden-setting (which is well-maintained). Flowers, trees and birds all quite abundant. The location couldn't be better for those that plan to hit all parts of the island. Again, the view may disappoint some, but we spent our days at the beach and didn't feel we missed out by selecting this lovely villa.
