We were a large group, staying at Tennis Villa and Tennis Cottage from 5/25 to 6/1. We rented it from Caribbean Villas and Resorts.
The villa was great. It is exactly as depicted on the web site. The bedrooms are VERY large. You could easily fit an additional cot (maybe even 2!) in each bedroom and not feel crowded. The bathrooms are large also.
My husband and I stayed in the poolhouse so that the "20-somethings" could stay up late, play pool, make noise etc and not bother us. The pool house far exceeded my expectations and was as nice as the bedrooms/baths in the main house.
All beds were very comfortable (we had the twins converted into kings). The pool and tennis court were great. The grounds have beautiful flowering trees, etc....beautifully lansdcaped.
Our daughter and her fiance were married at Trunk Bay on 5/29. We took many lovely pictures outside at the villa before the ceremony. We took a sunset cruise on the Daydreamer for her reception.....incredible!!
The kitchen was well equipped when we arrived.....spices, fruit, water, orange juice, half used bottles of rum. The management company had definitely provided some of this....the rest was obviously left by previous renters.
Plenty of dishes, glasses, utensils, cookware, dishwasher soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. Also plenty of linens, towels. dishcloths, etc. The washer/dryer worked great.
There were pool floats (for adults and children), and beach chairs. Plenty of beach towels too. The pool was clean, the filter is on a timer and it works well.
Plenty of water and the water heater works well. There are 2 cisterns for the property. One of them ran out of water while we were there. We called the villa company and someone came right over to switch us to the other cistern. Glad it didn't happen while we were getting ready for the wedding, though!
The cottage was also great. The only complaint I have is that one of the bedrooms in the cottage (not the main villa) receives AC from the living room...this is stated on the web site. That bedroom does not get cool enough. They need to install an additional air conditioner in that bedroom. There are air conditioners in the other 2 bedrooms at the cottage and in each bedroom in the villa, including the pool house. The AC worked fine in all of those rooms. And we had an unusually humid week!
There are cats that visit the property (usually in the am), as stated on the website. I am not a cat enthusiast. I have asthma. They did not bother me though and I fed them everyday.
Buy insect repellant! The villa is pretty near the water and we did get mosquitos at night. They seemed to come out about 4pm. I usually use a 13% deet spray (cutter). It was not enough. I bought a 39% spray and used it every night. It had rained quite a bit the week before we arrived...supposedly that brings the mosquitos. Also, invest in one of those "after bite" pens that contain ammonia as the active ingredient. It's available at most drug stores. It does help with the itch. Also bring calamine lotion, or something similar. Not everyone was bitten, but unfortunately they seemed to like me!
There are binders in the villa that contain menus for many of the restaurants on the island and info about sightseeing trips, etc.
St John is beautiful. The villa was great, as was the management company. I would definitely rent this property again!
