Drake's Lookout 07/23/2005
Reviewers Rating: Stars Excellent
Drake's Lookout has beautiful views and is very nicely furnished. It is completely private. It sits 600 ft above Coral Bay. However, it is quite a haul to get up there. You will definitely need a 4WD.

The main entrance leads into the greatroom with your kitchen and living area. There are lots of sliding screened doors and windows. This allows you to enjoy the views and the pool outside, as well as much needed ventilation. Drake's does not have air conditioning. There are also ceiling fans in all of the rooms.

The lower level has 2 master bedrooms each with 4 poster beds and private baths. The room we stayed in had a shower that had a window so you could look out at Coral Bay while showering.

There are wrap around decks on both levels and a hammock on the lower level. The pool was a nice size. It is certainly big enough to put a few floats in.

The kitchen was very well equipped. It had everything we needed. I hadn't fully appreciated this until we moved into our next villa (review coming soon).

There is also a cat that must belong to the owners because she has a food and water dish outside of the front door (and a very large bag of food under the sink) and she was used to being in the house. We happen to have 2 cats of our own so this wasn't a problem for us. This might not be the case for other visitors. She did come meowing at our bedroom screen door every morning at about 6 am, but there was also an energetic rooster crowing at about the same time every morning, so we couldn't blame her for waking us up!

There is a small stereo/cd player and cable tv, but in the living room only. There was also a washer/dryer in a closet area out on the deck, we never used it.

Beach chairs were also provided and there was some snorkeling gear there, but not alot.

The only real drawback was the lack of air conditioning. We would not have wanted to spend our whole 10 days there. Yes, you do get good trade winds sitting up that high and it was very windy the 4 days we were there July 5-9. But after a while you get tired of constantly being buffeted by the wind and fans. It was very humid those days and everything felt a bit damp to the touch. We also would have liked to have had the option of closing out the night sounds and the crowing rooster in the morning:) Again, this may not be an issue for others.

We still enjoyed our stay there very much and would recommend it. Drake's is a very cosy, private villa with beautiful views.
