Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We rented this villa in Coral Bay through Windspree Rentals. We found the Windspree people to be very nice and helpful. Their office is in Coral Bay, so I imagine that they know that area of the island very well.
Ananas (which means "Pineapple" in Danish) is located on Road 107 two miles past the Coral Bay Village one hill before you get to Miss Lucy's. As a point of reference, our drive to Trunk Bay took exactly 20 minutes.
The photos of this villa on Windspree's website do not do it justice. We thought it turned out to be much nicer than it looked in the photos. It is well-built, clean, and beautifully designed. The owners have excellent taste.
Ananas has 3 bedrooms, a loft with two children's beds, 2 bathrooms, and is built on two levels.
The upper level has the kitchen, living room, master bedroom and master bath. There is a television with cable (I think we only watched about 30 minutes of television in 7 days). There is also a loft with two children's beds above the master bedroom. (We did not use the loft, but it seemed like it might get a little hot in the summertime). The kitchen is extremely clean and functional with a great gas stove and corian counter tops. It is well-stocked with cooking utensils (everything except a pizza pan). The upstairs has numerous glass-louvered doors and windows which provide great views and decent air circulation. Doors from the living room and master bedroom open onto a very large covered deck.
The downstairs level is accessed by outside stairs. The stairs lead to a covered deck that is directly below and identical to the upper deck. The two bedrooms on this level are accessed via outside doors from the deck. A bathroom separates the two bedrooms.
The floorplan worked extremely well for our family because each of our two teenagers got their own bedroom. I think the setup would work well for two or three couples as well.
The lower level also has a small "dipping" pool that we used everyday after we got back from the beach.
One of the features that does not show up well in the website's photos is the landscaping. This villa is beautifully landscaped all the way around with stone walls, flowers, foliage, and walking paths. The back of the house faces the side of a hill, but it is so well landscaped, we still enjoyed the view.
I would guess Ananas sits about 60 to 75 feet up the side of the hill. There are 5 or 6 other homes on the hillside around you, but there really aren't any homes directly in your line of sight to the beach and water. It has a very "secluded" feel to it. The view from the two decks is wonderful. You look across Coral Bay and Round Bay to Haulover and the entire East End. (I will mention that Road 107 sits right below the villa, and you see and hear cars traveling on it. But, there is not much traffic one car every few minutes. This was not a big detraction.) Also, if you are an early morning person, I encourage you to get up for the sunrise over the East End--it is beautiful.
Finally, the only negative to this house is that is has no air-conditioning. We didn't mind this, but I know some people can't live without it.
