Chez Shell Villa 12/9 - 12/18 2005
We stayed at Chez Shell for 9 nights in december: it was my husband, my 3yrs old daughter and me.
Location: the villa is on Great Cruz Bay harbour; if we looked on the right from the deck we saw the Westin.
It is the house next door to Dream Catcher and Idyllic, located above The Beach House, Splash, and Gull Cottage. However, you cannot see the neighbouring houses, because there is a lot of vegetation around.(But sometimes we could hear people talking and laughing).
It is a short drive (7-10 minutes) from Cruz Bay and all on paved roads.
The view of the harbour with its boat traffic and of the Westin beach from the living room/kitchen and from the deck were outstanding and we loved it so much!
We liked the fact, that the house was close to town, restaurants, supermarkets; this makes things easier and faster, especially when you have children.
House description:the house has been recently remodelled, so floors, walls, tiles, bathrooms and everything look new and fresh.
The villa has a kitchen/living room with a wide front screened window which has a door opening on the deck. The deck is not very big and has a barbecue, a table, chairs, 2 lounge chairs and 2 umbrellas. There are no glass windows.
The picture on the Vivacations website are very accurate.
The kitchen was very well stocked with all the necessary pots, pans, dishes, glasses, tools and utensils.Appliances were new and worked very well.
Same for washer/dryer located in a small room on the lower floor and accessed by an exterior staircase on the left side of the house.
When you enter the house you find yourself in the living room, on the left there is the kitchen and the dining table, on the right there are 2 equally sized bedrooms with queen beds and adjoining baths with showers. There is air-conditioning in the bedrooms but it was quite noisy. We tried not to use it but it was needed. In the bedrooms and in the bathrooms there are ceiling fans, too.One of the bedrooms has view of the water from the windows.
In the living room/kitchen there are 6 ceiling fans as well, but no air conditioning.
The house has also a lower level, which is accessed by exterior staircases.
The lower level consists of a king bedroom with adjoininig big bathroom and small living/ kitchen area. The bedroom opens on a small terrace with jacuzzi (new)with a bit of bay view. The kitchen/living area, instead, opens on a wood deck with view of the lush vegetation. However, we did not use this lower level and left it locked. My husband used the jacuzzi twice and it can also be accessed by an exterior staircase on the right side of the house.
The whole house is tastefully decorated with shell-framed mirrors and nice furniture. It is a very nice house.
In my opinion the only downside was the lack of air conditioning and of glass-window in the living/kitchen area.
No see-ums(there were a lot of them by the time we were there) were a real nuisance. They passed through the screens, in spite of the working ceiling fans, and we were all bitten.
Anyway, if you are not interested in having a pool and you are lucky enough to be there in a bug-free period of the year this is a great house, good for a family of 4-6 people or for 2 couples as well.
