Harborview 03/31/2006
Reviewers Rating: Good
We rented Harborview through St. John Properties for the week of February 27-March 6. It is located just past Dolphin market at the end of a fairly private gravel road.

The property consists of three levels. The building is owned by BJ Harris, the owner of St. John Properties and her two golden retrievers. She occupies the upper level. There is a small lower unit which we were told was occpied by a cleaning person, but we never saw anyone there. The midddle portion of the building is Harborview.

The unit consists of an open kitchen/living area, a bathroom, and a bedroom. The building is in average condition, there were some maintenance items that should be taken care of, such as spackled walls and water damaged walls in the bedroom. We had rain leak into the living room area one morning and we had a louvered window panel fall on my husband (fortunately it didn't break).

The kitchen is fairly well stocked with all the necessities including a blender. We also had satellite TV, a nice deck with an odd but refreshing above ground pool.

In the evenings and in the early morning, the area proved to be incredibly loud. We could hear bands playing until the wee hours of the morning and the car ferry promptly hit the horn three times each hour starting at about 6:00 am. We solved this problem by closing all the windows and turning on the AC in the bedroom each night.

We enjoyed the closeness to town and we made use of the deck overlooking Cruz Bay each morning and upon returning from the beach each afternoon. The sunsets over St. Thomas were incredible.

We had access to a washer and dryer as well as coolers, beach chairs, and floats for the pool/beach.

BJ was a very gracious host and was very good to work with. Her dogs were constant visitors whenever we were home - although they were trained to stay out of our unit.

Overall, Harborview is a good value for the price. We loved being able to walk to dinner each night, we loved the view and once we figured out that it would be so noisy, we appreciated the AC in the bedroom.

It is not your typical fancy villa, but if you are like us and spend all day at the beach and eat out each night, it should suit you just fine.
