Location: HIGH above Fish Bay about a fifteen minute drive from Cruz Bay and 1/2 hr from the North Shore beaches. Some unpaved roads and one lane areas that require you to back up or down if you meet another vehicle. Very secluded and private with a wonderful view of Fish Bay. I thought the drive was rather un-nerving, but my husband seems to like the swithbacks and steep inclines. Must be a guy thing.
Villa; Very much lives up to its garden name sake:Contempory, bright and unpretenious with 2 large bedrooms with queen beds each with its own bath with double sinks and huge showers with views of the ocean. Each bedroom has a sliding door that opens to the patio area. Very large kitchen with everything you need including matching cloth napkins, placemats and tableware. The cabinets were mounted very high and I had hard time reaching anything above the first shelf, but I have a tall husband. There is a counter area with stools for indoor dining. THere is a half bath off the living room. The living room is furnished with only one sectional sofa and very poor lighting for reading. There is a tv, dvd player and stereo. Double patio doors open onto the pool and deck area, which is HUGE! There are two eating areans on the patio, one under a shaded area and one in a more sunny location. Very good lounge chairs and pool floats. The pool is perfect, with a view of Fish Bay. There is also a grill. Everything is on one level after you climb the curving staircase from the parking area. The laundry room was nice. Plenty of towels and bedding. This would be a great place for a small family, or two couples who do not require too much privacy
Minues: The screens in the bedrooms don't seal completely letting in bugs at night. We had to close the windows and run the air conditioning(only the bedrooms have a/c). The safe wouldn't open when we tried to get our stuff out the day before we were leaving. A call to the property manger seemed to fall on deaf ears and she instructed us to call the maintence man, We felt this should have been her responsibility. She seemed very unconcerned. The pool ran low of water(evaporation) and so the filter was making a terrible noise and we were unsure if it was ok to run water into it(didn't want to run low of water).Again a call to the manager who did/t seem to care. Birds seem to love hanging out on the patio early in the morning, leaving us "presents" which made quite a mess by the end of out stay. I would have cleaned it off, but I couldn't find anything able to remove the cemented on gifts.
This was the first villa we have ever rented though it was out 10th vists to St John. We would stay here again, but are looking into something closer to town for next year.
