Jasmine Villa 09/01/2007
Reviewers Rating: Great
Villa Jasmine, operated by Caribbean Villas is a charming, simple and economical choice for a family or a non couple group. The entirely open plan does not accommodate couples as there is no privacy. Jasmine is one of three related villas, along with Rosebay and Periwinkle which are joined by a series of stone paths. Rosebay is situated quite close about 20 feet from Jasmine's pool. The pool is located in the middle of the three villas but is reserved for Jasmine's exclusive use.

The villa is located on the first driveway on the left after turning onto Rockridge Road from South Shore Road. The driveway to Jasmine is around the rear of the properties and is reached after traversing a dirt path. The path is flat, but not very wide and rutted. At the end of the path you make a sharp right to a very steep cement driveway. The drive is covered by moss and in the rain we were unable to make it up. We were able to park in the lower drive which serviced Rosebay and Periwinkle but if worse came to worse one could leave the car at the bottom of the drive and walk up.

The house is painted a crisp blue and white and although the furnishings and appliances are a little dated they were very clean and well maintained. The main floor houses a bedroom with a queen size bed covered by a very whimsical spread. There is an armoire, lots of drawer space and a ceiling fan. Two of the walls are louvered and screened windows which when opened provided lots of ventilation. The walls of this room to not extend to the ceiling, hence the lack of privacy.

The bathroom is located opposite the bedroom and is spacious but basic, stand up shower large vanity and shelving for toiletries. For six people stagger the showers as the hot water ran out fairly quickly.

The great room contains a comfortable seating a TV with DVD, CD player and a round dining table. The villa is "centrally" A/C's owing to it's open floor plan and it worked quite well. It cooled the house down quickly and when set at 80 it was quite comfortable. The house has loads of ventilation. There is a wall of sliders across the back of the house and windows with lovers and screen everywhere else. A covered porch surrounds the back half of the house with a very nice view of Great Cruz Bay and St. Thomas. We had nice sunsets and rainbows nearly every morning. The back porch has an extension which houses a table big enough for six with a large umbrella and comfortable chairs.

Above the great room is a sleeping loft with two twin beds. The steps up are steep and remember to duck on the way down or you will bump head with the ceiling rafter. A hard hat is provided for this purpose !

Kitchen is large and airy. The selection of kitchen ware needs updating, mismatched pieces of dinner ware and stem ware. Pots and pans selection was servciable but minimal. We did a fair amount of cooking and were able to make due. There was a dishwasher, but we didn't use it.

The second bedroom is located below on the pool level. It stayed cool all day but also had an AC. Its fairly large 8 x 15 with only a full sized bed. The bathroom is really just a toilet and stand up shower in the corner of the laundry room. It would work for kids.

The pool is lovely, in a mature garden setting that got just the right amount of sun and shade. Very comfortable lounge chairs and pool floats.

This is the second time I've rented from CV and had good service both times. The gas grill which was on the deck just never got hot enough. We called first thing Monday ( note they are closed Sunday's, maybe that's an off season thing) and by 11 they were out with a brand new grill still in the box, he assembled it and took care of a few other issues, like a broken slider and window latches with no problem.

Jasmine makes a good choice for a family who is looking for a more economical choice. It has easy access to town and The Westin, the later is easy walking distance. Construction noise was minimal and we, a group of five women and a 8 year old felt very safe . I appreciated the A/C so we could close and lock all windows and doors at night. The pictures on the web site are reliable. For the right kind of group this is a great villa.
