Let me begin by saying I am one of the few that didn’t know about the (now retired) Bongo Bongo blog . . .although I did go back and read it word-for-word after we booked the villa. If you haven’t read the blog, do yourself a favor and read it, even if you aren’t planning a stay at Bongo Bongo.
Bongo Bongo is the type of villa you experience . . .not simply stay at. It has a personality all its own. We felt alive in this house! It may sound corny, but if you stayed here, you know what I mean. From the moment we arrived and Paco (Carefree Getaways) jokingly said, “Sorry about the view”, we knew we were going to love this place. And love it we did!
The View: There was always something to look at. Look one direction and see the sailboats in Chocolate Hole. Look another and see St. Thomas in the distance. Sunsets were amazing! And the lights of St. Thomas and the stars at night made us not want to leave the villa after the sun went down.
The Pool: Large pool with plenty of room for swimming, floating, or playing. We loved the little purple flowers that fell into the pool each afternoon as if someone had come over and scattered them there. We also loved the floats and the beach balls that were provided. Oh, and did I mention the views??
The House: The house is very well appointed and very well decorated. The colors are warm and rich, the lighting is romantic (dare I say sexy), the kitchen is far better than what I have at home, and the indoor/outdoor sound system (which allows you to hook-up your iPod) is a really nice amenity. We loved the outdoor shower (there are 2, but we only used 1), the high ceilings that made you feel like you were in a private villa in Bora Bora (or somewhere like that), and the high dollar telescope. So much thought and planning went into this villa – which is obvious when you read the blog. We also loved the artwork and the 3 Monkeys ( hear no evil, see, no evil, speak no evil) looking over us in the kitchen. And the A/C in the bedrooms really is “frosty”, as mentioned on the Bongo Bongo website – which was great because the bedding is so soft you’ll want to curl up in it.
The Landscaping: Beautiful, bright flowers are everywhere! There is also a papaya tree that produces fruit great for frozen drinks . . .or for breakfast.
Very Minor Complaints (if you can call it that): It gets really hot in the kitchen in the evenings . . .as the sun sets and shines directly into the kitchen during prime cooking hours. But, it quickly cools down and the 4 ceiling fans help to keep the air circulating. And the mosquitos! Damn those bugs! But, they are everywhere . . .it is the tropics, afterall.
I would highly recommend this villa to couples. We stayed here the week of our wedding/honeymoon and it felt very private and extremely safe. If two couples stayed here, both would have very private bedrooms, bathrooms, and showers (indoors and out). Common living areas include the pool/deck area, the living room (with digital cable) and kitchen area, and the outdoor dining area. The hot tub is situated in front of one of the bedrooms.
Although we paid to stay in this villa, we felt honored to live like this for the week. It was hard to come home to flat, white ceilings and views of our neighbors backyards. I felt like we were leaving a friend as we drove down the very steep, but paved, driveway for the last time. I hope Jeff and Russ (the lucky owners) know just how much joy their house brings to those that stay there! Thank you to them for putting their hearts, and their style, into this villa.
