virgin islands on line : St. John : hotel & villa reviews

Fair Winds and Following Seas 06/24/2009
Reviewers Rating: Great
We just got back from our first trip to St. John, and had a wonderful stay at this villa. The rental agency was helpful and thorough before our trip, our greeter was friendly and helped us through the rental car process, then led us to the villa, let us in, showed us around, etc.
The villa was impeccably clean, had everything we needed for a week's stay; comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, beach towels for guest use, outdoor grills, hot tubs, laundry machines. The villa has beautiful gardens full of tropical flowers, but the best part is the amazing view over Coral Bay , the East End and the British VI beyond. Sunrises were beautiful (and early!). The place actually consists of three houses: a "guest" cottage, which is like an efficiency apt., a main house containing the main living room, the main kitchen and dining area, and a master bedroom cottage. We loved the master bedroom; it felt like we were sleeping in our own little tree house! None of the buildings is large, but neither was it cramped. Our two teenage boys shared the guest cottage, and we all met in the main cottage for meals and games. The decks are extensive and each house has its own deck for taking in the glorious views. The decor is beachy/caribbean, with lovely pastel colors and lots of sweet details and decorations. The outdoor shower was neat, and has the best view you could ever imagine from a shower. In case you are not interested in showering outdoors, the upper guest cottage has an indoor shower.
It really is a welcoming, sweet place that I would stay at again in a heartbeat. We enjoyed everything about it.
A couple of things that might be negatives to people: there is no housekeeping, so the impeccably clean did not stay that way without our efforts. The drive up to the villa is steep, rutted and winding... definitely four wheel drive material. It would probably be detrimental to someone with a bad back or neck... you get bounced around a lot! But our boys thought it was awesome, and we grew quite fond of the twice daily adventure, though the first time up was somewhat of a shock. Also, the climb was quite necessary for the views and the relative isolation of the villa. As the previous reviewer stated, the villa is just as pictured on line.
