Just got back from St John and Bordeaux Breeze. Great, great villa. I've stayed at some very good ones on St. John and this one rates up at the top as well. This villa is at the top of Bordeaux Mtn. and sits below and to the right a bit from the now closed Chateau Bordeaux restaurant.
The house is in very good condition, was very clean and a good size for a 2 bedroom/3 bath villa. The access to the villa is on a steep paved driveway and the parking deck is long but narrow. It is very pretty at night because of the way they have it lighted. Turning around to go back up the driveway was fun! It helps to have someone directing you as you backup. The driveway is quite long and they have security cameras in three locations on the driveway approaching the villa. Not sure if the cameras were for Bordeaux Breeze or the bigger house that comes first (Chateau Margot?).
The house is very private although they are working on a house directly up the driveway which you can barely see its deck through the trees. A bigger house (Chateau Margot?) can also be seen but is far enough away that itís not a bother.
Stairs inside the house lead down to the bedrooms. There are also stairs outside by the pool that lead down to the lower deck level.
The 2 bedrooms were downstairs. Both had king size beds, tvís, air conditioning, overhead fans, and private bathrooms. Each bedroom had a closet and a private safe although 1 of them wasn't working last week. Downstairs also has a front loading washer and dryer unit. Bathrooms were very nice - double sinks, plenty of drawers, ceiling fans, and lights. It had plenty of space. Showers had good pressure which was nice.
There is one door that leads to the outside from the hallway. It provides access to a set of outside steps that lead to the pool deck. There is also a wrap around deck/walkway on this level. The master bedroom has 2 sliding glass doors that lead to the outside deck. The second bedroom has one sliding glass door that leads to the outside.
A very nice kitchen when you come in the front door and to the left. Plenty of appliances (stove/oven, toaster oven, microwave, refrigerator coffee maker, dishwasher, a funky lid/jar opener). These owners like their gadgets! Plenty of dishes, utensils, and cabinets. The place was supplied nicely for us with toilet paper, paper towels, and garbage bags. Plenty of linens were provided as well as beach towels. They have beach chairs, coolers, and floats to use in the pool.
Only thing I didnít care for was that the stairs to go downstairs are right when you open the front door, between the door and the kitchen. Itís a narrow walkway with long tiled stairs right there. We were extra cautious with our 5 year old and the stairs. The whole house is tiled. Nice but super super slippery if it gets wet. Remember that if you use the pool, hot tub, or rain comes in through the screen doors.
The round glass dining table is upstairs along with plenty of kitchen/bar seating. Nothing fancy but not cheap either. Four sliding glass doors to the deck are upstairs to let in the breeze. Ceiling fans are everywhere too. There is a nice small media entertainment area with a big flat screen tv, DVD player, Stereo, satellite/cable tv box (I assumed it was satellite but I didnít see a dish). A pull out bed/couch is used to sit on. There are also about 4 big cushy lounge chairs upstairs that face the hot tub that are easy to move if you want to sit elsewhere. There is a full bathroom off the media room with a shower.
The deck was awesome. Great views you never get tired of. None better on the island. We had very good weather overall. We had some rain and more clouds that I expected, but nothing that factored in really. We could see the BVI's and Peter island. They also had 2 sets of binoculars available to use which was nice with that awesome view. The Breeze is very nice and keeps most bugs at bay. We saw a nice rainbow one morning. The deck runs the entire length of the house. There are bats living in the metal roof above the gas grill. At dusk they come flying out and buzz over your head. I had to mention this, but not to scare people off. It did not bother us but we kept are head low in the chairs at dusk and watched them fly around!
Downstairs also has a deck but nothing on it because itís more of an outside walkway. Still a great view though.
The upstairs deck contains 2 small covered areas. A dining table and chairs are outside that we didnít use because cushioned chairs that get rained on all the time smell musty. A very nice Weber gas grill is out there to cook on. 3 or 4 full reclining lounge chairs are out there to lay on and watch the world go by. The hot tub is out there too. It is very nice and has lots of cool multi colored lighting. We only used it at night.
The solar heated pool - we used the pool every day when we returned from the beach and sometimes in the morning. At first I thought ďsolar heatedĒ was a joke because all pools are solar heated butÖ. They have a system where if the sun is out, it triggers the pump to pump the water up through pipes up on the roof and it heats it via solar panels that extend over the deck roofs. The filter and heating system are on timers and it all runs automatically. The water was not hot though at least in October. It was a bit cool for my wife but very refreshing to me and our son.
The pool is off to the right of the house and attaches to the deck. The pool has a light and you can turn on the elliptical affect to have cascading water over the edge. We didnít use it though as itís a waste of water from the pool tank (although it recycles). There were about 4 reclining lounge chairs there too and some small tables. The pool in fenced in from the driveway but has a gate/door. This door to the pool deck is setup where if you pull a rope the door will open. I tied the rope around the inside of the door so you could not open it from the parking deck at night.
Coral Bay is closer than Cruz Bay. We enjoyed going to Skinny Legs and Island Blues for quick eats. Skinny Legs has awesome hamburgers! We knew that from past trips so we were excited to be closer to it this time. The food is bar food mostly so donít expect fancier eats. Drive to Cruz Bay for better choices.
The drive from Centerline Rd. was fine. It is about 2 minutes from the house. You go up a hill and then down the hill to the Spice Hill sign. You turn left and you are on the driveway with the security cameras. We found some donkeys in our driveway 1 day. Just one of the things we love about St John.
When we were at the villa we had all the sliders open. When we went out, we close them and locked them. They have lots of fans and we had all of them on all the time. Upstairs is definitely warmer than downstairs but still comfortable. (The bedrooms are air conditioned and we use it.)
The closest beaches happen to be our favorites. Francis Bay and Maho Bay. Maybe 5-8 minutes away. That was real nice. The weather at the beaches was sometimes totally different than that at the villa. Cloudy at the villa sometimes and sunny at the beaches. Perfect!
Management Company (Nancy and Ernie from Love City Villas) was very attentive, nice, and friendly. They even invited us to meet them one day at Francis Bay, so my son could play with their children.
We got introductory pricing offered in 2009. Looks to be more expensive next year.
I can enthusiastically recommend this villa!
