Voyages de St. Jan

Coral Bay, St. John, USVI

Restaurant Review – January 23, 2002

Voyages de St. Jan is a new restaurant in Coral Bay, which was in need of a more upscale alternative to Skinny Legs, Shipwreck Landing or whatever the restaurant on the water side of Route 107 is going by. Coral Bay needed a restaurant to compete with Chateau Bordeaux, Asolare, Stone Terrace, et. al.

Voyages has a friendly, young staff that might not have the polish one might expect at an upscale restaurant, but the service was attentive, nonetheless. Two of us had tuna, one had shrimp and one had flounder. We chose a 2000 Pouilly Fousse (neglected to write down vinyard) for our wine, which was perfect with our entrees.

Salads were fresh and plentiful, almost too big. Fresh bread was delicious. Our entrees were hot and cooked perfectly, and the portions were generous for an upscale restaurant. Only one of us had dessert, pecan pie, which was quite good.

While not inexpensive, our tab for four was about $200, including a pricey bottle of wine and 15% gratuity. If you are looking for a “splurge” restaurant” for a special occasion while on St. John, but want the quiet ambience of Coral Bay, Voyages would fit the bill.
