Most taxis on St. John are vans or open air "Safari" buses - converted flat bed pick up trucks with roofs and bench seats. There are always plenty of them available at the passenger ferry dock in Cruz Bay which is the point of entry for most visitors. Official taxis carry the letters JP on their license plates. A Safari Bus is a convenient way to get to one of the National Park beaches for the day.
A Vitran bus leaves from the ferry dock at Cruz Bay every hour on the half hour and drives across the island to Salt Pond. The fare is $1 each way. This is the bus to catch if you are going to hike the Reef Bay Trail.
