USVI-On-Line: St. Thomas Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews:

Sapphire Beach Resort 01/25/02
Reviewers Rating: Great
Our first trip to St. Thomas (other than a stop on a cruise) was our Christmas Holiday to the Sapphire Beach Resort. We really enjoyed our stay. The Beachfront villa in building C was very nice for our family of 4. The view from the third and fourth floor decks is breathtaking. Having a small kitchen unit was nice although we ate most lunches and all dinners out. It was great to be able to make coffee and bagels in the morning.

Christmas day was so great when Santa arrived by dinghy, came ashore to greet all the children and give gifts and then he Parasailed away.

The staff at the Sapphire were quite shy at first, but after a few days of greeting them with a smile and good day they were very friendly and helpful. If you see Bookie make sure you stop and chat.

One area the Sapphire is lacking is a decent restaurant. Both the poolside food service area and the restaurant near the bar were very disapointing. We had a rental car and ate most meals at much nicer restaurants in Red Hook. I can see where this might be a problem for a guest without a rental car. There are two grocery stores very close buy to stock the kitchenette

Snorkling from the beach at Sapphire Beach is great. We traveled all over the island and to St. John to snorkle. Although all beaches and cays are different, the reef directly in front of our building was teeming with many varieties of fish, coral and a wide assortment of shells. The ability to enjoy great snorkling 100 yard from our hotel room was a treat.

It is true that the Sapphire allows Cruise lines to bring their guests to the Resort to use the beach and facilities. I would recommend finding out what day this is happening and going elsewhere that day. Magens Bay and Coki Beach are two great beaches we visited. Or for a quiet day away from SST take the barge to St. John.

Sapphire Resort is also a time share community. We were greeted by a representative of the sales department but there was absoulutely no pressure to take a tour. We actually got a lot of great trip planning advice and restaurant coupons from the sales rep.

If you like to be close to the water and a few steps from a lovely beach, the Sapphire Beach Resort will not disappoint you.
