Wyndham Sugar Bay 05/15/2004
Reviewers Rating: Good
If you have read some horror stories about this property, aome of them might be true. We just returned last night from a week at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and here are our thoughts.......
Rated at 41/2 to 5 *'s, overall, it doesn't come close. I have stayed in 4 to 5 * properties and this one is very far from bieng in their league. If you have any physical limitations or handicaps, stay away from Sugar Bay. If the grades and death marches to get to the different facilities doesn't do you in, the 99 steps to make your way to the pool and beach area certianly will. (REALLY 99 STEPS)
We supposedly were assigned a DeLuxe class room. Bed covers had cigarette burn holes, floors were not even vaccuum clean. There was trash and empty cosmetic bottles under the sink in the bathroom that Houskeeping did not find and remove throughout the week we were there. (I left them on purpose to check out the cleaning our room got each day) Used coffee cups and glassware were not exchanged each day, rather just rinsed out and returned to their normal placement, in some cases, still dirty. Carpets were heavily stained and the soap dish in the bath tub had been torn off the wall. Beds were worn and uncomfortable, springs showing through to fabric covers.
This is where the Wyndham SHINES!!!
We met and had so many many great staff members during our stay. Among them were; Sirley, waitress in the Manor House Rest., Danny, Guest Activities Group, Wilbert, Shuttle Driver, Natasha, Pizza Chef. Anyone complaining about surly staff or staff that was unfriendly has never been in the Carib. before. YOU must make contact first and let people know you are approachable. These folks at Sugar Bay are FIRST RATE, the only 5*'s I would give to this property is for the staff...
Average to fair, no glowing comments here. Even the night we dressed a bit more formal and went to dinner in the Manor House Rest., we found the same situations as in the Mangrove Buffet. Food served tepid to barely warm. The best meals of the days spent at Sugar Bay were Breakfast and the Burgers/Chicken sandwiches at the Iguana Grill near the bar.
Beach is very small and VERY ROCKY!!!! Not really a kid friendly environment. The pool area is well maintained, but with the trade winds constant, leaves and debris find their way to the pool. There were always adequite chairs on the beach or at the pool.
To sum up, DON'T pay for all inclusive unless you never plan to leave the property. IT IS NOT WORTH THE PRICE!!!!!!!!
DON'T SPEND EXTRA MONEY FOR AN UPGRADED ROOM. Even DeLuxe was pretty shoddy. I will be happy to share more, contact me direct firstname.lastname@example.org.
