Bolongo Bay Beach Club

USVI-On-Line: St. Thomas Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews:

Bolongo Bay Resort 08/01/2004
Reviewers Rating: Good
We just returned from 10 days at Bolongo Bay and we rate it as good. We traveled with another family and we both have young children (ages of 1 & 8 and 1 & 3) which heavily influenced our rating. We've traveled together before to other all-inclusives and we chose all-inclusive again just to not have any worry about money or dining choices, which works very well for traveling with other families and small children.

Bolongo is a small, family owned resort and it shows in the facility. The main issue we had with the facility was the small pool. Brochure says three pools, but really there is only 1 main pool for the resort and it is pretty small (there was a 2nd samller pool at the condo building, but we never saw the 3rd pool they talk about). The main pool did have a swim up bar, but there were no stools to sit on which made lingering impossible. They need to build a pool complex to really compete with other resorts.

The rooms were clean, tidy and the housekeeping staff did a great job on daily cleaning and replenishing of towels, etc. Beach towels had to be taken to the Dive Shop to exchange as needed. Many times they were out of replacements.

The food was fantastic and tasted great; no buffets except for the special Sunday BBQ and Wednesday Carnival. Iggies, the beach bar, had great drinks and appetizers. The menu remained the same for lunch and dinner so the variety for the full 10 days was a bit boring. The kid's menu only had 5 items. What we had we really enjoyed. The Beach House, the main al fresco dining room, had fantastic dinners, truly gourmet, but since we had small children who couldn't sit through a 2 hour meal, we only got to eat there twice during our stay. The service is very laid back (won't say slow...just on island time)

The catamaran cruise to St. John is a must for everyone. The crew and boat are fantastic and the snorkeling on St. John is at a beautiful site. It was nice to see the other side of the island also. We rented a car for two days and we should have rented for the entire trip. Bolongo is located on the far side of the island from nicer beaches (Magen's Bay and Coki Beach) and taxis are very expensive for a large group.

In hind sight, we would probably stay at a different resort on the other side of the island, but it would only mean a different experience not necessarily a better one. Bolongo is good for the price and if you don't want anything fancy. We would have enjoyed it more with older kids.
