USVI-On-Line: St. Thomas Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews:

Secret harbour 02/03/2005
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We just got back from our first trip to St. Thomas - selected Secret Harbour from a limted selection of available hotels primarily because of reviews on TripAdvisor.

Secret Harbour Beach Resort was wonderful. Hotel is relatively small and quiet and secluded on its own beach just outside Red Hook on East End, not near Charlotte Amalie despite its address on TripAdvisor.

We arrived around 3:30 and our beachfront room was ready for us - clean, comfortably appointed and a beautiful view of the beach and harbor. Immediately hit the beach which is relatively small but very nice (lounge chairs, umbrellas, palm and shade trees and three hammocks. Beach itself is a beautiful sand beach, but you have to pick your spots swimming near shore because of rocks in many places (never a problem though). The hotel has a raft anchored offshore which provides a nice swimming destination. The beach is well protected, so the water was calm during our entire stay.

Spent part of each day on the beach (which was kept spectacularly clean by the hotel staff). Snorkeling was wonderful on both sides of the harbor - lots of sea life including turtles and hundreds of different fish including some beautiful blue and rainbow parrot fish. There is a dive shop on site which rents snorkeling gear or can take you out on scuba dives. There is also a small gift shop on site (both the gift shop and dive shop offer some clothing) and a small fitness center.

Staff at Secret Harbour were very nice during our stay; room was kept very clean each day; wireless Internet access is available for $20 a day, or you can use terminals in lobby for $5. Will admit the hotel lobby is not much more than a place to check in, and we never saw the pool (up on the hill) during our stay, but who needs it when you have a beautiful sand beach with calm water?

Blue Moon Cafe at the hotel was very good for dinner - right on beach offering great sunsets when sky is clear. Not inexpensive, but very fairly priced for the quality of the food and beautiful view. Lunch at both the patio beach bar and Blue Moon was also very good (same lunch menu at both places). Blue Moon does serve breakfast starting at 8 AM, but I chose to drive into Red Hook for pastry and we had breakfast on our patio each morning - can't get any better.
