Mafolie Hotel 07/10/2007
Reviewers Rating: Great
We chose the Mafolie Hotel in St. Thomas for our one night stay before going over to St. John for a few reasons...price, shuttle to the Charlotte Amalie ferry, they had a restaurant that was open till 10pm and our flight wouldn't get into St. Thomas till 8:15pm, the views from the pool, and a nice website.

We got to the hotel at around 8:35 and verified with the front desk that the restaurant would be open till 10 so we could freshen up before going to dinner. They confirmed that it would be. My sister, who had gotten in earlier that day, also confirmed it with them. Well, when we got to the restaurant around 9pm, they informed us that the restaurant was closed. That was a big dissapointment because we had travelled all day and were expecting to have a nice dinner with the view. Instead we could walk "just up the road" to Sib's on the Mountain for bar food which we did, but the point is, don't assure us (which they also did when we made the reservation) that your restaurant will be open if it won't.

I have to say that the restaurant DID have a beautiful view...wish we could have enjoyed it more.

The rooms were fine, and all we needed for a place to crash till the morning. The shower was small, but the bathroom was not. The room had a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker if I remember correctly. It had it's own little balcony with which we sat out on and enjoyed the lights of St. Thomas that evening.

The continental breakfast was nothing fancy, but we weren't looking for anything big. It was all we needed before heading to St. John.

The hotel also offers a free shuttle to the downtown ferry, but it turned out that the downtown ferry wasn't running so we took a taxi to Red Hook.

The price was hard to beat, and the location was fine for what we needed. To be honest, I didn't notice how close we were to anything else because we were literally there for the night.

I think for the price, it was definitely a nice place. I would stay there again for a one night stay.
