USVI-On-Line: St. Thomas Restaurant & Dining Reviews:

Gladys Cafe 06/13/2004
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
What can you say that hasn't been written? We were looking for conch fritters and Johnny cakes. After asking me in that bitchin west indian accent, "Whatcha know about conch fritters boy?" a nice local lady told us about Gladys. We walked down and stood outside to look at the menu and a nice lady beckoned us in with claims of the best conch fritters on the island.
WOW...the conch fritters were perfect and the Bushwacker (a local island drink based on Kaluha and made with about 4 different types of alcohol) was a perfect match. We took some of her, most excellent, hot sauce home and have been barbecueing with it almost every night. If you like spicy sauce...this is the real deal. It has both heat (lots of it!) and flavor. If you're on a cruise or in the port area of St. Thomas this is a place not to be missed. Friendly eclectic mix of trip-hop, motown and standards on the sound system and wonderful food and drinks. Give it a try, you'll be happy you did.
