Coqui: Caribbean charm, sunset views

Coqui is a classic three-bedroom, three bathroom villa with pool located in the Maria Bluff neighborhood of St. John. The home is older, but is well maintained. The grounds are lush with mature landscaping, fruit trees, and many different kinds of flowers. The driveway is easy to navigate and even has a turnaround area. The bedrooms all have air conditioning (we did not need it for our February stay, but when we rented this house in the summer some years ago, it was very welcome). There is no AC in the great room or kitchen.

The main floor of the home consists of a kitchen (dated but functional), great room, master bedroom, and a full bath. The walls of the main level are made of large sliding glass doors on two sides that you open to bring in the breeze and the view. The back wall and other side wall are made of traditional Caribbean stone work. The back wall has three sets of large wooden doors that you can open for cross breezes if you wish. There are no screens on this part of the home. All of the bedrooms and bathrooms do have screens and louvers so you can enjoy the fresh air without worrying about bugs at night.

Outside and down a flight of stairs brings you to the other two bedrooms, both equal in size, accessed via doors from the deck, and with attached baths, The laundry room and the pool deck are also on this level. The pool is completely gated off from the main deck, which is a welcome feature if you are traveling with kids.

The best feature of this home is the unobstructed view out over Pillsbury Sound to St. Thomas. You can watch spectacular sunsets from either deck level.

The home has wifi (very slow), a TV (never used it) and bose acoustic wave radio with ipod hookup for entertainment, as well as a large assortment of books. The pool is not overly large but is more than ample for swimming and floating on a pool raft. Iguanas like to visit the pool deck, but they will not bother you.

Overall this is a very comfortable home in a great neighborhood with fantastic views. I would be happy to stay here again.
