Sundancer: Spacious, clean and comfortable

We spent 9 nights in Sundance in June 2010. I felt I needed to post this review due to a recent review which had me worried before our arrival. As others have mentioned, it is an older villa, but it is spacious, clean and comfortable. Sundance has 3 AC bedrooms, but one is very tiny and not equal to the other two. Sundance also has AC in the living room, dining and kitchen area, which was a big reason we rented it. It's true the kitchen counters and cabinets could be updated, but we had everything we needed for meal prep. The pictures on the website of the interior are accurate. There is one picture of the pool area which makes the area look much larger than it is, and the foliage has grown up above the railings since that photo. There was a good stock of condiments in the frig, and plenty of paper products, even laundry det & dryer sheets. There is a huge library of books, don't bother bringing your own. There is no working safe for valuables in the villa and the doors could easily be pushed open if someone tried. We had to use bug spray around the doors a few times to keep the ants at bay, but we did not have a problem with spiders or other bugs in the house. In fact, this was the first house in St. John where I didn't see a roach in the kitchen.

The pool is small, but was adequate for us. There is no view from the pool, but we got used to enjoying the foliage instead. It was a clothing optional pool for us, but in truth the villa next door could catch a glimpse if they tried. There are only 3 chaise lounges, which we thought was strange for a 3 bedroom house. In June, the pool gets sun from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. The mosquitoes were bad in the pool area and at the gazebo upstairs, so we were glad we brought coils. There is a hot tub on the upper deck, but it was so hot outside we never wanted to use it. There were plenty of beach towels and new beach chairs to take to the beach.

The upstairs master bedroom has sliders looking out to the covered deck area with a large dining table, and St. Thomas in the distance. The bathroom is large and never got too hot during the day. It has a large open, garden shower with potted plants and an open screened roof. When it rains you can shower and get rained on at the same time. Wasn't a problem the week we went, but if it rained a lot I'm not sure I would like it. The water pressure wasn't the best in this shower, and there was no place to put your bath soap, razor, and shampoo. We turned a laundry basket upside down to use as a table.

The downstairs master bedroom has a slider looking out to the pool deck. It has a large bathroom and an outside enclosed shower. This shower had good water pressure, but there were a lot of ants and mosquitoes to deal with. They didn't discourage us from using it though.

Sundance shares a driveway with Moonsong, and the two villas are very close together. However, we never heard the occupants of Moonsong unless they were leaving the driveway. We heard the folks from the villa on the other side of us, but they weren't obnoxious.

We loved the proximity to town and the easy drive. The views of Hart Bay and St. Thomas were beautiful. The area was very peaceful. The Pond Bay construction is stalled and pretty cleaned up so it was not much of an eyesore.
