We did $5 per bag and would have paid more!! She seemed very happy with that. From past post that I read before I left that amount varied from person to person. Figure they put your bags on a cart. You stand there while they go right up to an agent - no waiting - with your ID and get your boarding p...

The villa is in between Lucy's and Salt Pond. Very close to Lucy's. Sort of out on a cliff. You can see it from the road on the way to salt pond. We got single kayaks for the whole day. It was $45 each. Not sure what a double was. I think he has a website. Google Crabby's in St. John and he probably...

A mini review and thanks for all the tips!

Hi - My husband and I and another couple who have traveled together to St. John once before, just got back from a week on St. John. We had a wonderful week, but it was the coldest week we've ever had there! We're thinking of trying off season next time to try to get calmer weather. Villa: we stayed ...

Can you clarify a boarding pass question?

Hi - I've been reading a bunch of posts about leaving STT on a Saturday. Which we are doing! I know about the porters, etc. We do have luggage to check. Some posts indicated that it is still worth it to get boarding passes printed because the luggage check line is separate from the boarding pass lin...

Does Starfish Market have styrofoam coolers?

Hi - We are arriving quite a while before our villa will be ready and plan to grocery shop, scenic drive, and lunch before we get there. We will be buying a few perishables. I'm hoping someone knows if Starfish has these coolers.
Thanks,
sue

Porters, the airport and Saturdays?

Hi - me again - we leave STT on a saturday in the afternoon. I've done a "porter" search and read how bad that can be. Are there a lot of porters to be had and where are they when we get there? My husband has fits if our luggage is out of our sight til we're checked in - are they with you ...

tipping and private taxi

Hi - We are considering a private taxi from the airport to Frenchman's Reef where we are spending our first night (thanks to Marriott points!) before heading to St. John. I've been quoted $65 including luggage. This is for two couples. Didn't sound too bad to me. What do you do for tipping in this s...

Do most restaurants in Coral Bay take credit cards?

Hi - we are staying in coral bay and probably won't eat anywhere else. Also how about the grocery stores in Coral Bay - love's and Lily's I think?
Thanks, sue

gratuities for snorkeling day trip

Hi - while on St. John we are taking an all day snorkel trip with an outfitter around the island. The price says a flat fee for the day plus gas and gratuities. What do you all usually do for gratuity? A percent of fee? Or something else?
Thanks,
sue

ferry question

Hi - we'll be on St. John next month. There will be 4 of us taking the ferry from Red hook and we'll all have luggage. Do we bring the luggage on ourselves? Do we have to check it in? Is it charged per piece or is it by tips to porters? Thanks for any help. I'm assuming we can just arrive and buy ti...
