I like to do tinfoil packets of quartered red potatos over the camp fire. Add a little salt, pepper, garlic, and butter/olive oil...nothing better than a meal in the great outdoors.

You are right, Lex, there's not really a main town...at least not in the sense of a Cruz Bay type town. There are little bays/areas throughout the island that have restaurants and bars on the beaches. "The Valley" is the capital of Anguilla, and is the biggest town - couple of banks, groce...

Happy 4th of July!!

Tuesday we headed out to explore the island a little more. Went to Palm Grove Restaurant at Savannah Bay first....very secluded, nice beach, and cold beer. Went to Roy's Bayside Grill, Pyrat Rum Factory, and just tooled around the island. Came back to Shoal Bay for lunch, then hung out on the beach....

What a gutsy move on booking the vacation - kudos to your daughter for coming through for you!

We really didn't snorkel a lot (twice from the beach at Shoal Bay, and again on a day trip to Prickly Pear), but when we did weren't that impressed. Everything seemed really bleached out. ...

So far, St. John had been the only place that we'd repeatedly visited - now I now that Anguilla will also be on that list.

We always use a mix of cash and credit/debit cards. There is an ATM on island if you need more cash, and most restaurants take plastic. Never felt the need for travelers checks.
