Though we never stayed in Villa Margherita, we have stayed a little further up Majestic Mile and the views are some of the best on the island, IMHO. Also, we rented thru Windspree and found renting from local Coral Bay residents to be especially good. Karen and Kay are great!

Hermon had a great line about Caneel: "for the newly wed and the nearly dead." Cracked me up! He actually had an incredible life on STJ. He had been a farmer, owned a fruit stand amongst other endeavors before he did mostly his wood carvings. Hermon used to hire Peter Muilenburg, former ow...

Sad News

I just read in the Tradewinds that one of STJ's most beloved, wonderful characters, artist Hermon Smith, passed away this past Saturday. Herman carved lingum vitae necklaces, other jewelry, and sculptures which were sold in many of the islands shops. He was the epitome of the good hearted, free spiri...

Hike the Ram Head trail if you get a clear night. It's a very cool experience. For the easily intimidated try the much shorter Yawzi Point trail.

I've used Windspree repeatedly and have never had an issue. I think that Karen and Kay are great. I learned to also have them handle the car rental. Everything always goes like clockwork.

Things are pretty weird around here [MD} leaf- wise. The locust trees used to lose their leaves by mid August, [they were always the first to lose them]. This year they are still green and on the trees. They lost a few in the last day or so, and I'm sure that they'll lose a bunch tonight as it's sup...
