What's new in 2017?

RickG, good info...the Gibney deal is perplexing. That's at 2x a trip beach for us. I'm going to have to get crafty, maybe drop my wife off at the gate with our stuff and park up a Peace Hill. I will not be denied :) . I went last Sunday afternoon and it was fine. There were signs of an active cons...

Time from airport to to Red Hook

It's been a few years since my last trip and the last couple times we've rented a car on St. Thomas and took the barge over. So I can't remember the answer to this and I'm having trouble finding the info via search. With a standard taxi where they squeeze 10-15 people and make multiple stops, roughl...

How are the bugs?

In general on the island right now, how are they? Boring question I ask every time I'm heading down, but as I tend to get eaten alive, I need to prepare myself. Related note, we have been to Francis 3 or 4 times and it's gorgeous BUT it is always so buggy and we've even been run off by mosquitoes in...

Re: Trip report Jan 14-28

We are pretty boring,Up at 6 watch sunrise and have coffee, go to beach at 0830, snorkel, find shade, read, go to second beach eat packed lunch, snorkel and stare at water and read. Go back to Angel Roost have cocktails and appetizer and spend time on deck listing to island music. To bed early. You ...

Re: What was your first impression of St. John?

We arrived at night having only a little knowledge of the island. So other than the ferry dock, my first impression came from a dark and scary car ride up Jacob's Ladder. Yikes! Waking up with the sun the next morning, able to see and smell and hear the island in the gorgeous light of a blue sky day...

Re: St. John as a solo female

FWIW, one of our daughters spent a month on St. John, tent camping at Cinnamon Bay and up on an undeveloped property of ours on Mamie Peak, and she routinely used hitching to get around. She was totally cool with it, and more remarkably, both I and my wife were as well. That's not to say that St. J...

Re: St. John as a solo female

sasky, as a frequent visitor to stj and constant viewer of this and ta chat boards, i have 2 suggestions. first, if you do come as a single, DO NOT POST when you are coming, where you are staying, or plans while you are on island. to do so would invite predators. second while you can no doubt have ...

St. John as a solo female

My husband is going to the Super Bowl and in return I'm getting a few days to myself on St. John. Personally I think I'm getting the better end of the deal. I'll be leaving him at home with our 4 young kids to replenish myself on the island. This would be my 6th visit so I'm familiar with St. John, ...

Are you using the Tapatalk app of the mobile site? I haven't had any issues accessing from Tapa.

Wow, I'm sorry that happened. It wouldn't have even crossed my mind that someone would do that. Just out of curiosity, how did you find out? Were you following the business or did someone let you know?

Well, yes. Because I am actually pregnant, so, nooo way. I'm planning a trip for after the baby comes, so it wouldn't stop be otherwise.

Re: Pic's Pics & Report: May & June 2016 - Vol.1

Gorgeous, thank you for sharing. While I do love snorkeling, I often don't last long due to motion/sea sickness. So I adore seeing these. And I totally get the stopping to breathe and soak it in when alone on a beach. I am not a spiritual person...except in those situations when I give thanks to the...

Re: Argonauta Villa

sasky - How young are the kids? We were there two years ago with a 10 and 12 year old and it was fine. If you went with little ones, my only concerns would be the veranda as far as them sliding through the slats or the stairs from the upper level to the lower level. The family with the two children...
