Jumbie Girl - I just looked at my policy (32 pages long!) and it lists a Travel Delay benefit of $150 maximum per day, per person. For us, a family of 4, we'd have a benefit of $600 per day. I called cust. service and they said if the airline delays/cancels the flight due to inclement weather, you c...

last minute trip insurance

For anyone who's been curious about this, you can get travel insurance up to 24 hours prior to your trip. I know, I just purchased it last night. We leave Saturday for St. John and have had a few close calls, fortunately minor, but I felt like I needed some peace of mind. I will mention that it does...

Mango - thanks for the info on a tv at Pastory. Sounds like I can stick to my original plan and the males in the group can still check in on the game.

Where to eat dinner on Superbowl Sunday??

So I just made plans for our group of nine (includes 5 kids) to go to Pastory Gardens for drinks, dinner, and mini golf on Sunday Feb. 4th. Upon advising my husband of such, he looked at me like I was crazy...It's Superbowl Sunday! I looked at him and said "So??" It's not like the Eagles a...

hey Traveler - we do the Jersey shore in mid-June and if the water temp hits the low 60s we're happy. Your choice of words in saying "cool" temps is quite generous!

I agree with you...St. John water temp in the high 70s looks mighty good right now!

insurance on car rental

As this will be our first trip to St. John and subsequent first time renting a vehicle outside of the continental U.S., I'm curious as to whether the rental agency offers car insurance on the rental and do people purchase it? My personal auto policy at home does cover rentals, which is why we typica...

I checked both flights and they still look the same as far as plane (757) and seat assignments. Thank goodness. We're traveling with five kids and I'd hate to have the seat assignments all messed up. I planned on checking in online so hopefully that will provide me with the correct terminal. We've a...

flight from Philly - domestic or international?

I know this has been mentioned previously, but as we are about 30 days away from our trip, I'm just trying to make sure. A question for those folks who recently flew from Philadelphia Int'l to St Thomas on US Airways, was it considered domestic or international? We have a non-stop flight...don't kno...

kid-friendly beaches w/ facilities

Thanks for all the suggestions on the beaches.

Xislandgirl - you should have seen the look on my
12-yr old daughter's face when she was looking over my shoulder and read your quote on "peeing in the big pool", she was horrified! She's a fuss-pot, but I'm sure she'll loosen up a bit.

kid-friendly beaches w/ facilities

Which beaches are kid-friendly? We are traveling with 5 girls (ages 3-12) who all seem to need a bathroom every time you make eye contact with them, and typically all at the same time! I know I've read that Francis is great for kids, but just wondering what type of bathroom facilities are available ...

Thanks for the suggestions. We'll now consider Born to Rhumb as an option in addition to NHII. We didn't have a specific day in mind, but given our group size, it sounds like a reservation may be in order. Rick - we're staying at Great Expectations. I checked out your trip report, it was very helpfu...

BVI day trip in Feb

Our group of 9 is strongly considering a daytrip to the BVI in February, possibly with New Horizons II. Is this something that I need to reserve in advance, or can I wait till we get there? The dads in the group are a bit apprehensive about water travel in general (they're definitely wearing the pat...

Dinner reservations for 9

This is my first posting although I've been reading this wonderful forum since we first booked our trip back in April, so here is some background: we are two families (4 adults w/ 5 daughters, ages 3-12) staying at Great Expectations Feb 3-10. First trip to St. John for both families, can't contain ...
