Probably the most informative local weather site is www.weathercarib.com - this has an easily read format and the best satellite options.

We have had very little rain for months - a few passing showers that really do not do much for our cisterns and the water trucks seem like they are outnumbering the cars on the East End of STT - this weekend we are supposed to have a passing tropical wave but the satellite has it getting slowly erod...

Cooper Island has a snorkel, lunch and beach and shop combo attraction and as a stop it is good for a group that has varied interests.
The little cottages there that they rent may lure you back for a longer vacation though. I have spent a few long weekends there.

I don't know the configuration of the 2 cottages but I get to the beach fairly often. FUN?? ---Your children will be out the door 1st thing every single day playing in the water and building sand castles. Make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and even hats or super lightweight beach clothes. They w...

If you can't stop at Marina Market in Red Hook on the way over it is pretty easy for one person to just hop on the ferry if you are all in town having happy hour at a local bar. You can get butcher cut meats, homemade sausages, fresh fish and other excellent seafoods, some specialty veggies or fruit...

Very few of the rental villas on St John would even have been built before the Desal plant started operating, when we all depended on rainwater alone for all our water. Building unsustainable multibath, xtra showers outside, swimming pool, hot tub, waterfountain, huge houses was unthinkable before y...

Wayward Sailor is locally considered one of the best sailed and best snorkel trips that work here. Capt. Phil knows the underwater spots better than most fish. I often think the comments about him being 'picky' come more from his delivery than the 'rules' themselves. It is not a large vessel and eve...

PJ -- You cannot use the water if there is no power because the pump that takes water from the cistern and pressurizes it for the faucets , showers and toilets is electric. A bucket of water from the pool poured in the toilet bowl will flush the toilet, no problem. I don't know if these rental villa...

How much water is in the cistern - is it drinkable? Is there a generator - is it automatic -- will it power the AC - does it have adequate fuel? Is it considered an open air house? How interesting is it to turn the car around? Do I have to back in the driveway? Does the deck furniture have cushions?...
