Really glad that you all enjoyed our pictures. We really enjoyed this trip - it was our 6th time to visit St. John (last time 2008) and the 2nd time we stayed at Bayview villa(last time 2003). We found it to be updated, freshly painted, well equipped and in better condition than we remembered from 2...

We went to Jost for the first time last week (on our sixth trip to St. John). We took the ferry over on Friday and really enjoyed hanging out at the Soggy Dollar Bar on White Bay. Between the ferry, BVI taxes, cabs on JVD, food and lots of drinks, it cost about $350...so it wasn't cheap. But it sure...

Thanks - it will be just 2 of us, so we will only use the upper bedroom. Appreciate the information...we had a not so great experience a couple of years ago with a neighboring villa that looked great in the online pics but was in pretty poor shape and in need of maintenance. Wanted to avoid that aga...

Bayview Villa

Has anyone stayed at Bayview Villa near Coral Bay recently? We've stayed there in 2003 and I'm curious if has been maintained well or updated recently, so a report out from a recent rental would be appreciated. Making plans for an April / May trip...

Thanks...

Picking up a mango banana smoothie from the smoothie stand on the way back to the villa after an early morning at Maho. Don't know if the fruit is fresher or what, but no matter how hard we try, we can't make 'em like that... :)

My wife and I stayed at Ixora with my sister and brother-in-law in early May 2008. We found Ixora to be a great set-up and liked the proximity to the North Shore beaches and the smoothie stand. The main building has the living room and kitchen with the bedrooms on either side of the main room, which...

Dux,

Been looking to see if you posted a trip report for your 09 trip and couldn't find one. What did you guys think of Hawksnest villa?

Live Music Choices for the Week of 5/3 - 5/10?

Pat, Rick, Mat,

Thanks for the info and for the links - it looks like there are a lot of options to choose from. The page with the links to the musicians personal websites was really helpful - listening to their samples helped us pick out a couple that we are going to make a point to check out....

Live Music Choices for the Week of 5/3 - 5/10?

We'll be on island 5/3 - 5/10 :D and I'm curious about what the live music options are for that week. We'll be staying on Ajax Mountain, so we're open to suggestions in Cruz Bay or Coral Bay. My wife is a big jazz fan, so I would especially appreciate any recommendations for live jazz music....

Will the IRS now own the Beach Bar?

Say it ain't so! It looks like Allan, owner of the Beach Bar, has gotten in hot water with the IRS. We're headed down in May and I hope this doesn't cause another St. John favorite to close its doors before we get some good drinks on the beach... http://www.stjohntradewindsnews.com//in...

We did not walk down to Hawksnest or Gibney because of safety concerns. You would have to walk along Northshore road for about 1/4 of a mile in a section with a cliff going up on one side and a cliff going down on the other and with no shoulders. If two cars came along and you were walking in the ro...

DuxDweller - Glad you found my response helpful. The villa does not have AC, but we found it generally pleasant other than the middle of the afternoons I mentioned. If you stay on the beach until about 4, that probably isn't much of an issue. The early evening and sunsets from the deck were absolute...

My wife and I stayed at Hawksnest Villa in May 2006. The view was amazing. You can see out over Hawksnest Bay, over the Caneel Resort and to St. Thomas. The villa has large archways with slatted doors that roll-up on the main living area. When you open the doors, the main living area and kitchen are...
