Pia, last I heard he was still not making his own pasta, although he keeps claiming the freshly made pasta is soon come. I did get gnocchi there once that was freshly made though, which was delicious. I'd have to agree with the assessment that for the prices they're currently charging they should be...

Ted is making several different sandwiches at the deli at Starfish Market, and they're pretty good and decently priced (for St. John) as well. They're not your typical "deli sandwiches" either...he makes things like a mahi sandwich, maple bourbon glazed sirloin wrap and a grilled veggie fo...

I've eaten at Da Livio a few times too, and here is my honest opinion. I like the restaurant b/c I know the owner and know how much hard work he put into it. He is really sweet, but I think there are some kinks that still need to be worked out. The food and everything is authentic Italian, including...

I've eaten there twice now and I'd say the review you posted is right on. The food is delicious and the owner/cook is quite friendly. The review is correct about the menu changing daily, so we just found out what was on the menu when we sat down at our table and the owner told us. Give it a try, it'...

The new place will be called Waterfront Bistro. Another new restaurant that I really like is Da Livio, across from the Lime Inn in Cruz Bay.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the St. John Magazine subscription cost has been addressed on the St. John Tradewinds web site forum, www.stjohnnews.com/forum
Thanks!

Ruth, yes I am still here at the newspaper and I'm a proud contributor to the magazine as well! I will look into the mistake on the web site, because subscriptions are indeed $20 per year (that's $10 per issue) -- well worth the cost. *edited to add the subscription cost may have been raised without...

That must be a typo on the web site, because the cost is indeed $20 per year (two issues). If you buy it on newsstands, I believe it's $7. I may be a little biased, but I think it's totally worth it. I've read and reread my copy several times and it's now on display on our coffee table.

I've eaten there and really enjoyed it. It's what this island needs in my opinion -- more traditional West Indian food. And the owner is extremely pleasant. Give it a try!

The ferry companies were scheduled to meet with government officials today, so I'm sure there will be an update in the news tomorrow.

There is an article in this week's St. John Tradewinds all about Flavors, including where the money for this year's fundraiser will go and where you can get tickets. I imagine it'll be put online at some point today, www.stjohnnews.com.
It's a really fun event, and always for a great cause.

Note that ADM Wireless has taken over the Surf da Web spot at The Marketplace, however they still offer computer/internet service.

Sad news

Sorry to bring such sad news to this usually cheery forum, but I thought you forumites would want to know that Miss Lucy passed away this weekend.
I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but of course have enjoyed her restaurant several times. As far as I know, it will remain open.

The Tradewinds sometimes features stories of people who have taken an island animal home to the states with them.
Here's a good one:

I got married on Gibney so I'm kind of biased (Wolfhound, it may have been my wedding you saw getting set up actually). I would definitely recommend Gibney...next to the Oppenheimer house, there are two rows of palm trees that practically make up an aisle. We strung white lacy fabric between the tre...
