Re: Favorite place to stay where you can walk to town
For me & my wife, its Gallows (dating back to `94.) Good & responsive staff. Comfy for a couple. Quiet (much better than it used to be before A/C.) Good snorkeling. Well-equipped amenities (beach chairs, laundry, appliances, etc.) Not all roses. Had our Amalie Jeep's bumper dented 2 years ag...

Unfortunately, you still have to drive up Giift Hill Road to get to VGE. A large earth mound blocks the VGE road just uphill from the Westin Villas.
However, you can walk it. Good practice if you ever consider doing 8TM!

Re: Flight purchases - 330 day rule?
and it has backfired on me. I purchased the outbound trip with miles the return trip opened up today and I wanted to pay cash but it's $900 per ticket! May try a puddle jumper to San Juan and fly home on SW. At least from my most recent UA booking experience, I'd suggest checking again over the nex...

I appreciate taking the time to post your opinions.
I'm going to go along with what many of you said ... use the miles to book the direct flight.
TY!

SJU > STT via Cape Air? Opinions?
Even though I'm mostly a lurker, I highly value the opinions of everyone here. We have to reschedule our United flight this Spring from Newark NJ to STT, which was booked using miles. United gives me a choice of 20K additional miles pp to fly directly EWR-STT .... or fly EWR-SJU-STT without any addi...

Charlie: I've stayed twice at MP, but really can't provide advice regarding the pool. Based on Carefree's website photos, MP's pool & driveway were relocated since I was last there in 2012. (Hopefully, they also removed that gnarly boulder at the switchback in the driveway. ) But under the...

Re: Airport car rental
Barbara: I would second (well, 5th or 6th) the recommendation for Amalie. Great vehicles, and the pickup & drop-off process is wonderful. Dependable, Budget, and Discount also allow you to take the car ferry to STJ. A further word of advice. You mentioned a February trip. Book your car as soon a...

One possibility is Pink Papaya, in front of Lime Inn.
Another is the shop (Island Fancy?) on the 2nd level of Mongoose Junction.

Re: That special STJ aroma!
A convenient place to smell Bay Rum is around the parking lot at Trunk Bay. Take a few steps around, get a whiff, then "Ahhhh!" Sort of a blending of cinnamon & nutmeg. One of my favorite things about STJ. Did the NPS-guided L'Esperance Trail hike recently. Big highlight for me was wal...

Re: Boat in Maho
Nice photo. Pretty certain that the boat is Big Blue Excursion's 'Gypsea Girl'. http://www.bigblue-usvi.com/index.html http://www.gypseagirlvi.com/p/about-boat.html Used to see this behavior when the PR boats came over for the weekend & tied up en masse. Being that this one operates out of Cruz ...
