Re: Gallows Point recommendations

We have never stayed anywhere but Gallows. It's a great palce. The sky lights are a little aggravating if you like to sleep in. The sea gulls also like to hang out up there and peck on it at daylight. I think they're catching small bugs. In the scheme of things though, it has never been a big deal. ...

Re: Caneel Public Beach - Public Unwelcome

I've been to Honeymoon Beach one time. It was ok, snorkling was good etc. But honestly, I don't think it is worth the hassle to pay to park or buy something, hike in, and feel unwanted the whole time you're there. There are so many beautiful beaches everywhere that I just never felt compelled to go ...

Re: Trip report: 17 more days in paradise, final

Have really enjoyed your trip reports. --I am jealous of the 17 days you spent on vacation. I do have a couple questions if you have time. --We have only been able to spend more than 7 or 8 days on St John one time and that was for 10 days. It was wonderful as we didn't feel quite as rushed and the ...

Re: Airfare Post Christmas OMG

Miss Marcia
You can fly out of Chicago in January to San Juan for $200-$300 per ticket. I have never done this but it might be an option. I have no idea what costs would be from San Juan to St Thomas but may be worth a try

Re: Oh no! First-timers leaving in a week, lots of questions

1. Have cash and it will run app $20/person 2. I would carry some cash as a lot of the small mom and pop eateries, bars, shops etc. may not take travelers checks. 3. Yes on reservations. ---La Tapa, Terrace and a number of other places within walking distance of Gallows are comparable to Zozo's but ...

Nice report. I like Kiddle too. --What did you think of the sound of the surf as it tumbles over the rocks. My wife made a recording on her phone and plays it from time to time when she starts to miss St J. --Thanks

Re: I live here now.

Does anyone know if Hillary is still living in St John. I was wondering if the realities of living there set in and she decided it was not for her after all. Would be interesting to hear either way as we all (me) tend to romanticize life there. Anyway, it just seemed she was so excited about her blo...

Re: Trip report: Another week in paradise, final

Thanks, your pictures are always so real. Some I see are beautiful but can be so touched up they almost look artificial. When I look at these they really remind me of the island. Gives me a funny feeling inside.

Re: Gallows Point Seaview Cottage

Our last trip to St John was our 19th visit to the island. We have always stayed at Gallows and in a variety of Ocean View units. Honestly, I have never even noticed there was an electric pole of any kind. I'm sure there must be I just have never noticed it. You'll be astounded by the views --You wi...

For me, I'll definately stick around. This has been a gold mine of information and I was concerned we were losing some interest. It looks like there are more posts lately. Thanks for keeping this up and going.

Re: Traffic on site

Maybe we need to grease the wheels of the newly formatted website and talk some controversial smack. That always brings the interest (and posters) out. Throw out anything, I'll start ----I think it would be a great idea to tear down Gallows Point to construct a 12 story high rise. It would have to b...

Traffic on site

Is it just me, the time of year,or the new site format that has made it seem like traffic has fallen off to nothing. I'm in need of a trip report, a good question or a heated argument, something. There are very few new topics posted and I've been checking in regularly.--- Have you guys started a new...

Re: Splitting costs what's fair?

Aside from the cost issue, I would be a little (ok a lot) perturbed that someone would just decide to invite additoinal guests without first getting an ok from the others involved in the trip. Additional and unexpected individuals can change the whole dynamic of a trip and put stress and strain on a...
