Re: One night in STT

Nice pics. On a side note, I always thought Alcatraz was the original "The Rock".

Re: You Might "Get" St. John if...

Here are a couple: 1a) If your idea of blow drying your hair is two windows rolled down on the way to dinner, you might "get" St. John. 1b) If your idea of "fine china" is a clear plastic cup, you might "get" St. John. 1c) If flip flops and a clean t-shirt mean getting ...

Re: Westin Ferry vs. VI Ferry?

Not difficult at all to go the local ferry route. Might even be worth contacting Rachel for a private taxi since there are four of you. Her number is 340-771-2986. She'll meet you at the airport and take you straight to Red Hook when you have your luggage claimed. No waiting to fill the rest of the ...

Re: RickG's group travel rules for St. John

kklay, I'm not Rick but I'll say that we leave airfare up to each couple. I'm like you and tend to plan well in advance. We also usually fly on miles and therefore will book as soon as they allow in order to get the flights we want. We tell traveling partners when we book our tickets and leave it to...

Re: The reason behind when you go to STJ

We are Texans as well and prefer the July/August timeframe to escape our brutal heat. The lower costs and less crowded scene also suits us. We've migrated to July more recently as most places are still open at that time. This year it's July 15-25 and we can't wait.

Re: Restaurant for special occasion

Equator at Caneel is quite nice as well. Of course depending on the occasion and who's celebrating Beach Bar could be perfect as well. But in keeping with the other 3 you listed I'd say consider Equator.

Plenty of big sharks and other fish out at the fishing grounds. North or South drops.

Re: Hubby would like to go deep sea fishing...

Absolutely recommend the Double Header guys. Have fished with them more times than I can count and ALWAYS catch fish. The owner of the company, Jonathan, is probably the best fisherman I've ever been around. Great guy to boot! If you're lucky you'll get him to be your captain. Although all of his ca...

Re: On island now, thoughts and photos

Agreed for the most part on the "friendliness" found at the airport, taxi, and ferry terminal. Particularly the ladies selling tickets. However, on our trip last August we met the nicest most helpful lady at the booth to enter the car barge. She had a wonderful smile and gave us a nice run...

2cat, I'll send you a PM on the cost. Here are some answers for you. We didn't look at the second downstairs bedroom but it is smaller than the master. The master has direct access to a bath but the other downstairs bath is outside the second bedroom. No real view from downstairs. There is a screene...

We were there over Labor Day Week. The pool was cool but not cold. It is in the shade early afternoon because of the mountain. The house is on the eastern face of the mountain so as the sun moves west it comes into the shade. It was a non issue for me or my wife and the pool is quite private.

It's a beautiful place. We stayed there two years ago on the same deal and loved it. It is HIGH above Coral Bay and is a bit of a drive to just about anywhere. But the views are incredible and the house is nice. The pool is small but sufficient and can be a bit cool but not too bad. We would definit...

Try this page from VRBO: http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/caribbean/usvi-st-thomas#a20568 Sapphire Village is right above Sapphire Beach Resort. There are several there with rates close to or $100 per night. I would bet that contacting the owners of available units at this date might get you a d...
