We have been sailing with Capt. Phil 3 times and never disappointed. He is knowledgeable about reefs, sailing, snorkeling. local history, and people. He runs a safe, relaxed operation. Congrats to Capt. Phil, Allison, and Tarn! Hope to be back soon.

Re: Snorkel Gear by the week?

We always bring our own masks, snorkels, and neoprene socks, but rent fins from Low Key for $25.00 per week. We invested in the socks so that we don't need a perfect fit for the fins.

Re: Turtles at maho

Went back to Maho today. High surf advisory had been canceled, but the water was murky. Still saw a turtle and a stingray. Also saw some trunkfish - my favorite - and the pelicans were fishing right along the beach. Tomorrow is the walk of woe. It has been a great 10 days.

Re: Must try restaurants???

Morgans Mango- lovely setting and we always have great food and service there. This time, our group had pork tenderloin, coconut shrimp, and voodoo snapper. All good. And always have a key lime pie martini. La Tapa- went there on jazz night (Tues). The music is lovely and the food is great, but we c...

Re: Skeeters

We were told that after the initial outbreak of chikungunya this fall, there haven't been cases reported recently. We sprayed our legs with Natrapel, a natural repellent, w...

Liamsaunt- the turtle we saw had a large area missing from just behind its front flipper to just in front of its hind flipper on the left side. And it was shark-mouth shaped! Great photo!

over the grass beds, of course, to see turtles. Always scanning the sand bottom for rays. The barracuda was just kind of hanging out at the bottom. He wasn't moving around too much.

Turtles at maho

Yesterday was a good day for snorkeling with the turtles at Maho Bay beach! We spent about an hour swimming with 5 turtles, a southern stingray, and a barracuda. Has anyone else seen a turtle at Maho that looks like it has a bite out of its left side? Shark bite? It was all healed over, but looked l...

Night of the Silent Drums: A Narrative of the Slave Rebellion on the Virgin Islands by John Anderson
This book was published in the 70's I think and is out of print, but you should be able to find a copy online from as used book seller. Well worth the effort.

When we made the trip with Captain Phil a couple of years ago, he introduced us to Foxy and we had an opportunity to chat and take some photos with him.
