I like the bamboo idea. I researched it for floors, and it's more durable than other hardwoods (except mesquite, according to the lit I got) and of course it's sustainable so you're building 'green'. The business owner might even get some kind of incentive for green building. It's less common, at le...

Re: Our move to St. John
Fantastic! Congrats to you and Christine!
If you're anchored in Coral Harbor on Leap Day 2020, stop by Skinny's after 8 Tuff and I'll buy you both celebratory painkillers.
Also, I think you need a signature boat drink and I'd call it the Pink Pig.

1:04! You rocked it! That would be a dream time for me.
Now of course you have to target being in the under an hour club. No rest for the wicked. (Or wickedly addicted.)

@hoosierdaddy how was your run? I didn't have my fastest, but not my slowest either. But I had such a fun time! I really love doing that race. Villa and flights are booked for next year's race!

Re: Full face snorkel masks? ISO feedback and recommendation
Hi Hoosierdaddy! (From a Hoosier Mama!) Well if I had any advice I haven't been taking it myself! I haven't been running much at all. It's good you're getting in some hill training; that's hard for me to do and I think that will help you. Other advice I got, from a friend who does marathons as well ...

Re: Full face snorkel masks? ISO feedback and recommendation
Thank you Arkie and PA Girl and gmanka! I've decided to invest in a new, good quality traditional mask from a local dive shop. If it works while I'm there, I'm going to try renting a full face mask to see what we think. I always stay on the Coral Bay side and don't get to Cruz Bay a whole lot, so no...

Full face snorkel masks? ISO feedback and recommendations
Hi all! It's been forever since I've been on the forum and I'm happy to see some familiar names. :D It also feels like forever since I've been to STJ (2018 trip for 8 Tuff was cancelled due to Irmaria.) Anyway, I'm finally going back next month for 8 Tuff! (note to self: more training needed) My BF ...

Re: I was really holding out hope for our February trip!!
Me too! I was in 'wait and see' mode... also planned to go down in February. (Original plan was to do 8 Tuff.) I just got off the phone with United and they're processing a refund. I'd rather have my vacation! (Booked with miles, so it will be tough to get a better fare!) I was so excited about the ...

Re: Coral Bay
I've been wearing my bracelet with STJ GPS coordinates nearly daily since Irma hit (the bottom one in the picture.) It's the spot where the Ram Head trail ends - special place for my family and a big part of my heart is there.

Re: Tickercheck
Hi hoosierdaddy (hey I'm a Hoosier mom! Daugher at IU and loves it.)
I'm hoping for 8 Tuff 2019 too since 2018 is out. I ran it 2012, 13, and 14 and it's so fun! There is a wonderful spirit and camaraderie, and post-race pain killers at Skinny's are also fun.

Re: Tickercheck
I had flights, a Jeep, one night at Cinnamon Bay, and a deposit on a villa for 8 Tuff 2018. The race isn't being held, but the organizer and some of his friends are still running the course that morning. He welcomes other runners, but asks that we all support ourselves with supplies (e.g. water etc....

Re: Hurricane Maria now a Cat. 5
I'm very scared and sad for everyone there. I know some people evacuated to St. Croix after Irma, and it now looks like Maria will hit St. Croix hard. I've been thinking a lot about some folks I met who run a sail charter and live aboard their boat. They may have lost their home and their business a...
