Re: STT airport closure & planning ahead

I've been watching the governor's updates (painfully). VI Consortium doing a good job of broadcasting http://viconsortium.com/
Airport opening Thursday...sometimes the words "limited commercial flights" are used. We plan to be on island Thursday if Delta - ATL is one of the chosen flights!

Re: America Hill Hike, Ruins, & View

Every year my husband looks up from Maho Bay and says "I want to hike up to that ruin way up there". We all laugh. It wasn't until recently we heard there was a trail! It will be on our list for this year!

Re: Extra Virgin with Kids?

Our daughter is a bit older but not very adventurous and has been happy with the pasta dishes - there are several on the menu. Many restaurants will create a child's dish for you from common ingredients used in other menu items (like pasta and shrimp). We have not tried this with Extra Virgin.

Re: Recs for Birthday Dinner?

I second Extra Virgin Bistro - love the braised short rib and Cioppino! We also love Ocean 362 for sunset drinks - call ahead and reserve 2 seats at the upstairs bar.

Re: Looking for two 4-bedroom villas adjacent to one another

Wow - quite a selection here. I'd also like to recommend my villa - Villa Solare (VRBO 466293) 5 BR/5BA (2 in main and 3 in guest house) on Great Cruz Bay. Located across the drive below us is Villa Colorado 4BR or next to us Villa Adagio 3BR. All have pools and A/C in bedrooms. Villa Solare has a w...

Re: Belize?

Hi Northerngirl - I was going to suggest Belize - our second favorite. We flew to Belize City and took a puddle jumper to Placencia, a southern peninsula. We stayed in a cottage about 50 ft from the ocean. There was a beach bar within walking distance, as well as other resorts, restaurants, gelato s...

Re: Charleston, SC

We enjoyed staying at the Mills House http://www.millshouse.com. Very convenient for walking to downtown shopping or down to the battery. Great restaurants on Queen Street within a short walk. We had a room with a balcony and enjoyed morning coffee and evening cocktails overlooking the street below....

Internet shopping

Does anyone have a good list of companies with internet ordering who ship to St. John? We have used JC Penney, Walmart and Macy's successfully - but still hit or miss depending on what you order. It's frustrating to go all the way through the ordering process to find that particular item can't be de...

Re: bathrooms in a rental villa

No problem with small baths as my husband and I are on different schedules while on vacation. However, storage is key. With smaller baths, many are putting in the pedestal sink which has no surface area for storage. With makeup (on occasion), hair products, dryer, etc., I prefer not to drag in and o...

We would like to recommend our villa, Villa Solare in Great Cruz Bay Estate http://www.vrbo.com/466293 - 2 Master suites in the main house and another three to choose from in the Cottage - all have their own baths and are air conditioned. Easy walk to the Westin for breakfast or happy hour - this gi...

Re: Villa help- Belvedere or Inn Love

Funny you should mention the trees, CHM...on our first week staying in the villa, after only 3 days, I called the gardener and pointed out all the limbs hiding our view! The next day, there were men with machetes chopping away to get the view back!
