Tourist Trap
It's official. The last day of business for Larry at the Trap was last night, Friday. Some of the locals hung around a bit after the kitchen closed. Hugs all around. Went by today. The sign is down. The tarps are gone. I almost shed a tear. We will miss Larry, his sense of humor, and musical library...

Re: Trash, Fuel, and Barges
Trash is moving. Nice to see the dumpsters empty. I heard that the barge worked into the late hours last night to move the trash.
Thank you to the Capt Vic staff.

Trash, Fuel, and Barges
Here is the latest on the situation. For the past few days only one barge is running and it can only take cars and small vans. Therefore, we are not getting deliveries of gasoline, propane, concrete, building materials, etc. Construction on St. John is at a standstill. No trash is leaving the island...

Re: CBS Sunday Morning visits St. John
It is too bad that this story focused on Caneel Resort. It even advertised the prices, amenities, and which room Angelina and Brad stayed it. No mention of the campground and the prices for it. No mention of the archaeological sites that date back to pre Columbus days. No mention of the rich Caribbe...

Re: Tourist Trap
The owner told us on Friday 7/15 that he didn't have a definite closing date. He is reducing his inventory and when it gets too low he will close.

Recycling on St. John
Just a reminder to visitors to the island. I know you are committed to recycling and are accustomed to living in a location where almost everything is recycled in a co-mingled fashion. Unfortunately on St. John we ONLY recycle aluminum cans. The recycling is done by dedicated volunteers not the gove...

Re: Water temperature early March versus early May
Earlier comment that beach was crowded on a Saturday. Saturday and Sunday are days most locals go to the beach. It's the weekend.
Also, a lot of locals won't get in the water during the winter because it is too cold. So when the temp climbs there will be more locals on the beaches.

Re: Lion Fish - It's What's for Dinner
Lion Fish present a high risk for the ciguatera toxin which is a problem in this area. I will not eat it or any other reef dwelling fish.

Re: Today's car barge update. It's not pretty.
mdcoles you are so right. The local FB pages are full of stories. Businesses that are based on one island but had a job to do on the other reported spending 8 hours in line and just 2 to get the job done. Concrete all comes from St. Thomas. The concrete shipments to St. John were stopped because you...

Re: Love City Car Barge Online Reservation?
Reserving a spot with Love City might work if the Love City barges are running. Currently one is and one isn't.
Being moved to the front of the line may cause a fight now. Emotions get a bit high when you wait in line for 4 - 6 hours.
