Re: Coral Bay question

Hi all, I was there in November when things wee still pretty rough in Coral Bay. It brought tears to my eyes to see the wreck that was Shipwreck landing; literally a pile of sticks. Like you 99, it was our go to place in STJ and my kids kids grew up there as well. Glad to see they'll rebuild. Not su...

Re: One night on STT ?

We always stay at the Galleon House. Coming and going to STJ. It's right in the middle of town, but getting to the airport is no problem as they arrange transportation. The rooms are cheap, (from about $70-125 per night depending on amenities & view). And the owners are friendly. Only downside i...

Re: 2 hours in Charlotte Amalie

Another thought: Have you ever been to Beuchert's Beer Garden. It's a little oasis of calm down an ally between 2 jewelry stores on Kongens Gade, across from Palm Passage. A Little hard to find, there's just a small sign with an arrow pointing to the passage. The garden consists of some beautiful sh...

Re: 2 hours in Charlotte Amalie

As far as a restaurant is concerned, we always recommend Gladys Cafe in Royal Dane Mall. You can sit at the bar and have a drink and lunch. Food is great and authentic. Frenchtown also has a few interesting places, including the Pie Whole - good pizza and an incredible beer selection. I also just li...

Re: What was your first impression of St. John?

Exit Zero, Wow! Actually that was my first impression of STJ - Hippie haven; Woodstock South; lots of booze readily available as well as other stuff... And super friendly people. During my second trip 2 years later, my friend got sick on a hike and in trying to help her I left my camera by the side ...

Re: What was your first impression of St. John?

First Impression of St. John: 1982: I had never been to the VI or anywhere in the Caribbean other than Puerto Rico. Met a guy at a party in NYC who suggested we join him and some friends on a sailing trip in the VI. On a whim, my friend and I agreed. (yes we were very young and very stupid!) We Flew...

Re: Cinnamon Bay Kayak questions

If it's the same vendor at CBC that has been there, he doesn't open until around ten. So don't rush in the morning.
It's an awesome adventure; we've done it several times. Don't forget to bring lots of water. There is no real shade on the Cay and it's easy to become dehydrated.

Re: Guinness

There are very few places in the Caribbean that have any beer on tap. They have difficulty keeping the lines clean and the kegs at the right temperature. They only place on StJ that i know of that has any beers on tap is the Tap Room. They sell what they brew and sometimes will have a stout. FYI, my...

Re: Finally returning!

Our go to place in STT is the Galleon House, located next to Bunker Hill. The rates are very reasonable (about $160 for their deluxe room, about $100 for their cheapest rooms) and it includes a nice breakfast. You can walk over to Bunker Hill for their dinner. Only downside is that you need to climb...

EWR is a well organized airport. With almost 1 1/2 hours you should have no trouble making the connection.

Re: Trip Report – May/June – Part 3 – Encounters with Critte

I few years ago my group (4 adults, 4 teenagers rented some Kayaks and went to Whistling Cay. We were hanging out in the ruins of the custom house, enjoying our sandwiches and the view, when we were attacked by a herd (flock?, pride?) of iguanas. Had to have been at least 10-15 of them. They were al...

Re: Suggestions for overnight stay on Tortola

Tried to post this the other day but the internet gods turned against me and it got lost. I now second everyone else's suggestions. CGB is THE place for a short stay in Tortola, especially if you don't plan to drive. You can stay at Myett's, Cane Garden Bay Cottages (quieter as it is a little away f...

I agree with Loria. Wait before buying your tickets. I find the best deal is usually about 2months to 6 weeks out.
About the Westin. Can't speak to that cuz I'm not a resort person. Have you checked out the Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel? Or Estate Lindholm?
