Have you tried Spirit Air? I just checked some rates out of Detroit for early April, and it looked like you could get them for around $500 RT (depending on the dates)... Not great, but it beats 700 bucks. Spirit gets mixed reviews. We've flown them once, and had some minor issues with assigned seats...
